  • Exploring Hopewell Pyro Engineering: Experimental Replication of the “Pit and Tunnel” Features from the Turner Site (33HA26) in Southwest Ohio

    Aaron R Comstock, Katelynn R Russell et al.•ARTICLE•Midcontinental Journal of…•2025•References: 20

The peoples referred to by archaeologists as “Hopewell” were expert artisans and adept engineers who created vast culturally modified landscapes. • Physical volcanology of Tseax Volcano, British Columbia, Canada

Open Access•Yannick Le Moigne, Glyn Williams-Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

Tseax volcano erupted ∼ 250 years ago in NW British Columbia, Canada producing tephra deposits and lava flows. Field mapping has defined the stratigraphy of Tseax and the lava flow morphologies. Aerial photogrammetry and bathymetry surveys were used to create a high resolution digital elevation model of the volcano to facilitate mapping and estimates of erupted material volumes. Tseax volcano (∼ 10.4 ± 0.7 × 106 m3) comprises an outer breached sp…

  • Walking on Water—A Natural Experiment of a Population Health Intervention to Promote Physical Activity after the Winter Holidays

Open Access•Jonathan Mcgavock, Nicole Brunton et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Background : Very few experimental studies exist describing the effect of changes to the built environment and opportunities for physical activity (PA). We examined the impact of an urban trail created on a frozen waterway on visitor counts and PA levels. Methods : We studied a natural experiment in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada that included 374,204 and 237,362 trail users during the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 winter seasons. The intervention was a 10…

  • The built environment and active transportation safety in children and youth: A study protocol

Open Access•Brent Hagel, Alison Macpherson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

This program of research will identify the built environment associated with active transportation safety and form an evidence base from which municipalities can draw information to support change. Our team's national scope will be invaluable in providing information regarding the variability in built environment characteristics and is vital to producing evidence-based recommendations that will increase safe active transportation

  • Youth injury prevention in Canada: Use of the Delphi method to develop recommendations

Open Access•Ian Pike, Shannon Piedt et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

The modified-Delphi process was an appropriate method to achieve agreement on 19 specific evidence-based, policy-oriented recommendations to complement the national youth injury report. In providing their input, it is noted that the injury stakeholders each acted as individual experts, unattached to any organizational position or policy. These recommendations will require multidisciplinary collaborations in order to support the proposed policy de…
