  • Genomic and phenotypic insights into the first imported monkeypox virus clade Ia isolate in China, 2025

Open Access•Chunhong Yin, Yan Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

The 2022 multi-country outbreak of monkeypox virus (MPXV) sparked global health concerns, as cases emerged increasingly outside traditionally endemic regions. This outbreak, spanning 2022–2023, was primarily driven by the clade IIb strain. Subsequently, a surge of MPXV cases caused by clades Ia and Ib in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other African countries has garnered heightened attention. Notably, clade Ib has recently been imported…

  • Meteorological drivers of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome in China’s Jiaodong Peninsula

Open Access•Xiaofang Guo, Ruixiao Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) is a naturally occurring zoonotic disease significantly influenced by meteorological factors, with rodents serving as the primary reservoir. It imposes a substantial global disease burden. This study aims to investigate the non-linear and interactive effects of meteorological factors on HFRS, as well as the exposure-lag-response patterns on the Jiaodong Peninsula in China. Method: Daily met…

  • West-to-East transmission clusters and meteorological associations for severe hand foot and mouth disease in Shandong Province

Open Access•Xiaoying Xu, Jianxing Wang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

To analyze spatiotemporal clustering patterns of severe hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in children aged ≤ 5 years, quantify the associations between meteorological factors and severe HFMD incidence, and evaluate incidence shifts associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in Shandong Province, China, during 2013–2023. Spatial autocorrelation analysis (Moran’s I) and spatiotemporal cluster detection (SaTScan) identified high-risk zones. Generalized …

  • Exploring the spatiotemporal effects of meteorological factors on hand, foot and mouth disease

Open Access•Chao Zhang, Zengqiang Kou et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The influence of meteorological factors on hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is not on the same scale, it's rare for previous studies to measure and recognize the independent regression relationship between each variable in space and time scale. This study used a multiscale geographically and temporally weighted regression (MGTWR) model to explore the relationship between the incidence of HFMD and related meteorological factors in Shandong Pro…

  • Spatial-temporal drivers and incidence heterogeneity of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome transmission in Shandong Province, China, 2016–2022

Open Access•Qing Duan, Yao Wang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The autoregressive component emerged as a significant driver in the transmission of HFRS in Shandong Province. Targeted preventive measures should be strategically implemented across various regions, taking into account the predominant component influencing the epidemic

  • Intestinal colonization with ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in healthy rural villager

Open Access•Shuang Wang, Hengjie Xie et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Background The worldwide emergence and diffusion of extended-spectrum β-lactamase- K. pneumoniae (ESBL-KP) is of particular concern. Although ESBL-KP can inhabit the human gut asymptomatically, colonization with ESBL-KP is associated with an increased risk of ESBL-KP infection and mortality. In this study, we investigated the prevalence and characteristics of ESBL-KP in fecal samples from healthy persons in 12 villages in Shandong Province, China…

  • Spatiotemporal analysis of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome in Shandong Province, China, 2014–2018

Open Access•Yao Wang, Bo Pang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

The number of SFTS cases in Shandong Province increased overall. Geographic information system analysis coupled with spatial analysis illustrated regions with SFTS clusters. Our results provide a sound evidence base for future prevention and control programs of SFTS such as allocation of the health resources, surveillance in high-risk regions, health education, improvement of diagnosis and so on

  • Impact of the Ebola outbreak on routine immunization in western area, Sierra Leone - a field survey from an Ebola epidemic area

Open Access•Xiaojin Sun, Thomas Samba et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

Coverage levels of MV and Pentavalent3 were low before the EVD outbreak and decreased further during the outbreak. Although the MCHW catch-up campaign increased coverage levels, coverage remained below pre-outbreak levels. High-quality supplementary immunization activities should be conducted and routine immunization should be strengthened to address gaps in immunity among children in this EVD-affected area
