  • Auditing the spatial and temporal changes in urban cropland in Harare metropolitan Province, Zimbabwe

Lenon Musosa, Munyaradzi Davis Shekede et al.•ARTICLE•African Geographical Review•2024

Urban agriculture continues to play a key role in addressing food insecurity and poverty across developing countries. This study used Landsat 5 imagery to map the spatial and temporal distribution of cropland in Harare Metropolitan in Zimbabwe using the Random Forest classifier in Google Earth Engine. Results show that the area under cultivation fluctuated considerably between 1985 and 2019 and several factors account for this trend. The results …

  • Modelling climate change impacts on the spatial distribution of anthrax in Zimbabwe

Open Access•Learnmore John, Munyaradzi Davis Shekede et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The study revealed that areas currently suitable for anthrax should be targeted for surveillance and prevention. The predicted future anthrax distribution can be used to guide and prioritise surveillance and control activities and optimise allocation of limited resources. In the marginally to moderately suitable areas, effective disease surveillance systems and awareness need to be put in place for early detection of outbreaks. Targeted vaccinati…

  • Spatio-temporal clustering of active wildfire pixels over a 19-year period in a southern African savanna ecosystem of Zimbabwe

Munyaradzi Davis Shekede, Ibahnash Mupandira et al.•ARTICLE•South African Geographical Journal•2021

Understanding the spatial and temporal dynamics of active wildfires is critical for supporting policies and legislation related to wildfire management. The study tested the extent to which active wildfires significantly cluster in both space and time from 2000 to 2019 using space-time scan statistics permutation model (STSSP) available in the SaTScanTM software at the 6 month and annual scales. The statistical significance of each identified clus…
