  • Vitamin intake and its association with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among Malaysian adults

Open Access•Zaleha Md Isa, Rosnah Ismail et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

This study found an alarming deficiency of vitamins A, B6, B9, B12, C, E, and K in the dietary intake among the Malaysian adult population regardless of T2DM status. The dietary vitamin deficiency (vitamins B6, B9, B12, E, and K) was more susceptible among those with T2DM compared to non-T2DM. This study indicated that higher dietary vitamin intake (vitamins A, B6, B9, B12, C, E, and K) could benefit by reducing the prevalence of T2DM. Therefore,…

  • Differences and agreement between two portable hand-held spirometers across diverse community-based populations in the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (Pure) study

Open Access•MyLinh Duong, Sumathy Rangarajan et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2022

Introduction Portable spirometers are commonly used in longitudinal epidemiological studies to measure and track the forced expiratory volume in first second (FEV 1 ) and forced vital capacity (FVC). During the course of the study, it may be necessary to replace spirometers with a different model. This raise questions regarding the comparability of measurements from different devices. We examined the correlation, mean differences and agreement be…

  • Prevalence of Good Condom Usage and Its Association with Condom Use Self-Efficacy among Youth Attending HIV/STDs Clinics in Primary-Care Settings in Malaysia

Open Access•Norbainun Che Hamid, Khasnur Abd Malek et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The low prevalence of condom usage among youth with Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Sexually Transmitted Diseases (HIV/STDs) is a concern. Condom use self-efficacy has been identified as a significant predictor of condom usage. This cross-sectional study examines the prevalence of good condom usage and its association with condom use self-efficacy among Malaysian urban youth, aged between 18 to 24 years old attending HIV/STDs clinics in primary-care…

  • Physical Activity in Malaysia

Open Access•Nik Munirah Nik Mohd Nasir, Nik Munirah Nik-Nasir et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Physical activity (PA) in the form of structured or unstructured exercise is beneficial for health. This paper aims to study PA levels across four domains according to the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and its associated factors. A total of 7479 Malaysian adult participants between 18 to 90 years old from the REDISCOVER study who completed the IPAQ were analyzed. PA was calculated as MET-min per week and were categorized ac…

  • Assessing Factors Associated with Non-Fatal Injuries from Road Traffic Accidents among Malaysian Adults

Open Access•Zaleha Md Isa, Noor Hassim Ismail et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The occurrence of NFIs due to RTAs is highly preventable with strategic planning aimed at reducing the risk of RTAs among the Malaysian population. Interventions focusing on protecting road users, especially those who drive two-wheelers, with proactive road safety awareness and literacy campaigns, combined with strict enforcement of the existing traffic laws and behavioural modifications, may reduce the risk of NFIs following RTAs

  • Prevalence, awareness, treatment, control and socio demographic determinants of hypertension in Malaysian adults

Open Access•for the REDISCOVER Investigators, Suraya Abdul-Razak et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

Hypertension is common in the Malaysian adults. The control of hypertension has increased over the years but is still quite low. Public health measures, as well as individual interventions in primary care are crucial to reduce their risk of developing complications
