  • Prospective and bidirectional associations between caloric midpoint and adiposity from 7 to 10 years of age

Open Access•Sofia Cardoso, Mílton Severo et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2026•References: 56

A later daily distribution of energy intake has been inconsistently associated with adiposity in adults but studies in children are lacking. We aimed to assess the potential prospective and bidirectional associations between caloric midpoint and adiposity at ages 7 and 10 years. We selected a sample of 1910 participants of the Generation XXI birth cohort (Portugal). Using ≥2 food diaries, we computed the caloric midpoint, i.e., the clock time at …

  • The effect between metabolic syndrome and life expectancy after cancer diagnosis

    Open Access•Tomàs López-Jiménez, Tomás López‐jiménez et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

This study examines remaining life expectancy (RLE) after a cancer diagnosis, focusing on age, sex, cancer type, and metabolic syndrome (MS) components, using data from the SIDIAP database in Catalonia (2006-2017). RLE was analyzed for 13 cancer types, stratified by sex and MS components. The cohort study includes 183,364 individuals followed from diagnosis until death, transfer, or study end (December 2017). RLE at age 68 (median diagnosis age) …

  • The Influence of Artificial Light at Night on Asthma and Allergy, Mental Health, and Cancer Outcomes

Open Access•Andy Deprato, Himasha Rao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Artificial light at night (ALAN) exposure is associated with the disruption of human circadian processes. Through numerous pathophysiological mechanisms such as melatonin dysregulation, it is hypothesised that ALAN exposure is involved in asthma and allergy, mental illness, and cancer outcomes. There are numerous existing studies considering these relationships; however, a critical appraisal of available evidence on health outcomes has not been c…
