Association between air pollutants and blood cell counts in pediatric patients with asthma
PM 2.5 , PM C , and NO 2 were independently and positively associated with ANC, PM C was positively associated with eosinophil count, and PM 2.5 and PM C were positively associated with platelet count in pediatric patients with asthma. Our results highlight the relationship between air pollution and blood cell counts in pediatric patients with asthma
Association of Stress-Induced Hyperglycemia and Diabetic Hyperglycemia with Mortality in Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury
Background: Hyperglycemia at the time of hospital admission is associated with higher morbidity and mortality rates in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Using data from the Chang Gung Research Database (CGRD), this study aimed to compare mortality outcomes between patients with stress-induced hyperglycemia (SIH), diabetic hyperglycemia (DH), and nondiabetic normoglycemia (NDN). The study occurred at Keelung, Linkou, Chiayi, and Kaohsiun…
Effect of Height of Fall on Mortality in Patients with Fall Accidents
This study suggested that patients who sustained GLF and non-GLF were distinct groups of patients, and the height of fall did have an impact on mortality in patients of fall accidents. A significantly higher adjusted odds of mortality was found in the GLF group than in the non-GLF group after adjusting for age, sex, and comorbidities
Performance of Prognostic Scoring Systems in Trauma Patients in the Intensive Care Unit of a Trauma Center
We compared 11 prognostic scoring systems and demonstrated that MPM II at 24 h had the best predictive performance for 1554 trauma patients in the ICU
Concurrent Types of Intracranial Hemorrhage are Associated with a Higher Mortality Rate in Adult Patients with Traumatic Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is the second most frequent intracranial hemorrhage and a common radiologic finding in computed tomography. This study aimed to estimate the risk of mortality in adult trauma patients with traumatic SAH concurrent with other types of intracranial hemorrhage, such as subdural hematoma (SDH), epidural hematoma (EDH), and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), compared to the risk in patients with isolated traumatic …
Impact of Adapting the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS)-2005 from AIS-1998 on Injury Severity Scores and Clinical Outcome
In this study, we revealed that the adaptation of AIS-2005 from AIS-1998 had resulted in a significant decrease of severity scores in the measurement of the same injuries. The number of head/neck injuries classified as 16-24 was the key difference between AIS-1998 and AIS-2005. Furthermore, critically injured patients who had ISS > 24 coded by AIS-2005 had significantly higher mortality rates than did the patients coded by AIS-1998. This study al…
Effect of Hypothermia in the Emergency Department on the Outcome of Trauma Patients
This study aimed to assess whether hypothermia is an independent predictor of mortality in trauma patients in the condition of defining hypothermia as body temperatures of p p = 0.115). However, multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that patients with low body temperature were significantly associated with the mortality outcome. This study revealed that low body temperature is associated with the mortality outcome in the multivariate…
How Does the Severity of Injury Vary between Motorcycle and Automobile Accident Victims Who Sustain High-Grade Blunt Hepatic and/or Splenic Injuries? Results of a Retrospective Analysis
This study demonstrated that car occupants with high-grade BHSI were injured more severely, had a higher incidence of worse clinical presentation, had a longer hospital LOS, and had a higher incidence of complications than motorcyclists. The results also implied that specific attention should be paid to those car occupants with high-grade BHSI, whose critical condition should not be underestimated because of the concept that the patients within i…
