  • Investigation of Influences on Indoor and Outdoor SVOC Exposure

Open Access•Brianna N Rivera, Lisa Bramer et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Americans spend approximately 90% of their time indoors, with more than 66% of that time spent in residential buildings. Factors pertaining to household behavior or environmental factors may influence types of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC) found indoors. Paired indoor and outdoor passive samplers were deployed at twenty-four locations across the United States. Samples were analyzed for >1500 SVOCs to identify common patterns in exposure …

  • An interdisciplinary perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of the International Dyslexia Association definition of dyslexia

Open Access•Brian Gearin, Jessica Turtura et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Dyslexia•2024

  • A realist review of dyslexia pilot project research

Open Access•Brian Gearin, Jessica Turtura et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Dyslexia•2023

  • Pesticide Exposure among Latinx Children in Rural Farmworker and Urban Non-Farmworker Communities: Associations with Locality and Season

Open Access•T A Arcury, Haiying Chen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

This study uses repeated measures to document the pesticide exposure of rural and urban Latinx children (age eight at baseline), and to compare these children in terms of the frequency and concentration of their exposure to a large set of pesticides, accounting for season. We used silicone wristbands worn for one week up to ten times at quarterly intervals from 2018 to 2022 to assess pesticide exposure in children from rural farmworker ( n = 75) …

  • Associating Increased Chemical Exposure to Hurricane Harvey in a Longitudinal Panel Using Silicone Wristbands

Open Access•Samantha M Samon, Diana Rohlman et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Hurricane Harvey was associated with flood-related damage to chemical plants and oil refineries, and the flooding of hazardous waste sites, including 13 Superfund sites. As clean-up efforts began, concerns were raised regarding the human health impact of possible increased chemical exposure resulting from the hurricane and subsequent flooding. Personal sampling devices in the form of silicone wristbands were deployed to a longitudinal panel of in…

  • Assessment of Multipollutant Exposures During Pregnancy Using Silicone Wristbands

    Open Access•Brett T Doherty, John L Pearce et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2020

Silicone wristbands can assess multipollutant exposures in a non-invasive and minimally burdensome manner, which may be suitable for use among pregnant women. We investigated silicone wristbands as passive environmental samplers in the New Hampshire Birth Cohort Study, a prospective pregnancy cohort. We used wristbands to assess exposure to a broad range of organic chemicals, identified multipollutant exposure profiles using self-organizing maps …

  • Development of an environmental health tool linking chemical exposures, physical location and lung function

Open Access•Diana Rohlman, Holly M Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

The ELF is a novel environmental health assessment tool that allows for personal data collection spanning chemical exposures, location and lung function measures as well as self-reported information

  • A Community-Based Approach to Developing a Mobile Device for Measuring Ambient Air Exposure, Location, and Respiratory Health

    Open Access•Diana Rohlman, Laura N Syron et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Justice•2015

In west Eugene (Oregon), community research indicates residents are disproportionately exposed to industrial air pollution and exhibit increased asthma incidence. In Carroll County (Ohio), recent increases in unconventional natural gas drilling sparked air quality concerns. These community concerns led to the development of a prototype mobile device to measure personal chemical exposure, location, and respiratory function. Working directly with t…

  • Limitations of the Liberal-Legal Model of International Human Rights: Six Lessons from El Salvador

    K Anderson, Kim A Anderson et al.•ARTICLE•Telos•1985•Cited by: 1

To subject the international human rights movement to a purely theoretical critique cannot help but suggest a certain mean-spiritedness. After all, no one knows better than those in the front lines of human rights work exactly what, in terms of lives lost and atrocities suffered, the movement has been unable to achieve. The religious workers of the Salvadoran Archdiocese, the legal aid lawyers of Paraguay who affirm conscience over prudence, the …
