Open Access•Z Mupambireyi, Victoria Simms et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2025

Young women living with HIV (YWLHIV) experience numerous stressors including treatment management and poor parent modelling. YWLHIV (15–24 years old) participating in a peer-support model tailored for young mothers (Young Mentor Mum intervention) completed a self-administered interview and had clinical and psychological assessments in …

The COVID-19 pandemic and associated measures may have disrupted delivery of maternal and neonatal health services and reversed the progress made towards dual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis in Zimbabwe. Monthly aggregated data were extracted from DHIS-2 for all facilities delivering antenatal care (ANC). ZIMSTAT and Spectrum demographic estimates were used for population-level denominators. Programme indicators are among those in HIV care and population indicators reflect the total …

Open Access•Liz Comrie-Thomson, Karen Webb et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2022

Background: Maternal mental morbidity and low perinatal health service utilisation in resource-constrained settings contribute substantially to the global burden of poor maternal, newborn, and child health. The community-based Mbereko+Men program in rural Zimbabwe engaged women and men in complementary activities to improve men's support for women and babies, coparents' equitable, informed health decision-making, and ultimately, maternal mental h…

  • Food insecurity is a barrier to prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission services in Zimbabwe

Open Access•Sandra I Mccoy, Raluca Buzdugan et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Among women with a recent birth, food insecurity is inversely associated with service utilization in the PMTCT cascade and severe household food insecurity may be positively associated with MTCT. These preliminary findings support the assessment of FI in antenatal care and integrated food and nutrition programs for pregnant women to improve maternal and child health
