  • Factors Associated with Not Seeking Post-exposure Prophylaxis for HIV Among PrEP-Naive Men Who Have Sex with Men

Open Access•Juan Camilo Jones, Marie Costa et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2026

HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) uptake is low among men who have sex with men (MSM), even among those aware of it. We examined factors associated with not seeking PEP among MSM in the ANRS-PREVENIR cohort who were PrEP-naive at enrollment, aware of PEP, and reported a potential need for it in the previous 12 months. Among 3,193 participants, 632 (19.8%) met these criteria, and 424 (67.1%) did not seek PEP. The most cited reasons were low perc…

  • Trajectories of Chemsex Engagement Across Time Among PrEP-Using Men Who Have Sex with Men

Emils Sietins, Luis Sagaon-Teyssier et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Sexual…•2025

Objectives To identify trajectories of chemsex engagement and their evolution across time among men who have sex with men (MSM) and the associated factors. Methods Among 2518 PrEP-using MSM in the French ANRS- Prévenir cohort, a group-based trajectory model was used to identify trajectories of chemsex engagement. A multivariable model was then used to estimate time-constant factors associated with trajectory membership, and time-varying factors as…

  • Generational perspectives on PrEP, prevention, and sexual practices in MSM (ANRS-PREVENIR cohort)

    G Boshouwers, Charlotte Bauquier et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2025

This study explored perceptions of sexual norms and practices related to HIV prevention and PrEP use among three generations of men who have sex with men (MSM) in the ANRS-PREVENIR cohort in France in 2022. Using a qualitative approach with three focus groups, we identified key themes: societal transformations, evolving sexual norms, and changing attitudes toward PrEP. Participants (29-63 years) belonged to three distinct generational groups: tho…

  • How PrEP users constitute a community in the MSM population through their specific experience and management of stigmatization. The example of the French ANRS-PREVENIR study

Costanza Puppo, Bruno Spire et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2020

The ANRS-PREVENIR (2017–2020) prospective cohort study aims to reduce the number of new HIV infections in the “Ile-de-France” region in France, by enrolling individuals at high risk of HIV infection and proposing daily and on-demand pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). The qualitative component of the ANRS-PREVENIR study aimed to investigate social and relational evolutions associated with PrEP use in men who have sex with men (MSM). In 2018, 12 focu…

  • Beyond viral suppression of HIV – the new quality of life frontier

    Open Access•Jeffrey V Lazarus, Kelly Safreed-Harmon et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Medicine•2016

BACKGROUND: In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted a new Global Health Sector Strategy on HIV for 2016-2021. It establishes 15 ambitious targets, including the '90-90-90' target calling on health systems to reduce under-diagnosis of HIV, treat a greater number of those diagnosed, and ensure that those being treated achieve viral suppression. DISCUSSION: The WHO strategy calls for person-centered chronic care for people living with H…

  • Impact of migration origin on individual protection strategies against sexual transmission of HIV in Paris metropolitan area, Sirs cohort study, France

Open Access•Thomas Kesteman, Annabelle Lapostolle et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

These results underline the importance of taking culture and origins of target populations into consideration when designing information, education and communication about HIV and sexually transmitted diseases. These results also draw attention to fractions of the general population that could escape from prevention messages

  • Better health-related quality of life after switching from a virologically effective regimen to a regimen containing efavirenz or nevirapine

Valérie Potard, Olivier Chassany et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2010

Switching antiretroviral therapy has been shown as safe and effective, but its impact on health-related quality of life (HRQL) was rarely measured. Our objective was to assess changes in HRQL after switching to an non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI) containing regimen among NNRTI-naive HIV-infected patients with viral load (VL) <500 copies/mL. In this prospective observational study, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression, Sympto…

  • Prognosis of HIV-1-infected patients starting highly active antiretroviral therapy

Open Access•Matthias Egger, Margaret May et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2002

  • A new approach to estimating Aids incubation times

Sylvie Chevret, Dominique Costagliola et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1992•References: 23

STUDY OBJECTIVE--The aim was to develop a new approach for estimating the incubation period of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), based on age distributions. DESIGN--Incubation period was expressed as the difference between age at time of diagnosis and age at time of contamination. Assuming independence between age at time of infection and incubation period, the age distribution of newly diagnosed AIDS cases is thus the convolution produc…

  • A routine tool for detection and assessment of epidemics of influenza-like syndromes in France

Dominique Costagliola, Antoine Flahault et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1991•Cited by: 2•References: 4

A regression model for the nonepidemic level of influenza-like syndrome has been estimated from the 55,200 cases collected between October 1984 and August 1988 using the French Communicable Diseases Computer Network. The start of a major epidemic in 1988-89 was detected early. The size of the epidemic, for the entire country, was estimated at approximately 4.3 million cases. The excess cost of sick-leave, among those of working age, was estimated…
