Phenotyping Pediatric Long Covid
Background: The aim of this study was to identify patient clusters based on acute symptom profiles and individual characteristics most likely to develop pediatric post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), as well as clusters among patients with PASC based on post-acute sequelae and associated characteristics. Methods: This multicenter cohort study in 12 Italian pediatric units enrolled patients aged 0-17 years within three months of a l…
Parent’s Health Locus of Control and Its Association with Parents and Infants Characteristics
The Parent Health Locus of Control (PHLOC) investigates the individual's beliefs about the factors that govern their state of health and that of their children. The direct association between PHLOC and preventive health behaviours compliance has already been demonstrated in the literature. However, it is still unclear how socio-demographic variables affect the PHLOC. We investigated the Parent Health Locus of Control of parents of full-term and p…
Meningococcal Disease in Pediatric Age
Meningococcal disease is caused by Neisseria meningitidis ; 13 serogroups have been identified and differentiated from each other through their capsular polysaccharide. Serotypes A, B, C, W, X, and Y are responsible for nearly all infections worldwide. The most common clinical manifestations are meningitis and invasive meningococcal disease, both characterized by high mortality and long-term sequelae. The infection rate is higher in children youn…
Pediatric Septic Arthritis of the Knee Due to a Multi-Sensitive Streptococcus pyogenes Strain Responsive to Clindamycin—A Case Report
Septic arthritis is an inflammatory process usually generated by a bacterial infection. The knee is one of the most frequently involved joints. The etiology varies depending on age, and hematogenous spread remains the primary cause in children. Herein, we report a case of a previously healthy three-year-old female who was referred to our institution for acute swelling of her right knee. After a clinical and radiological diagnosis of septic arthri…
Fever and Pain Management in Childhood
In order to evaluate the adherence of healthcare providers and parents to the current recommendations concerning fever and pain management, randomized samples of 500 healthcare providers caring for children and 500 families were asked to complete an anonymous questionnaire. The 378 health care providers (HCPs) responding to the survey (75.6%) included 144 primary care pediatricians (38.1%), 98 hospital pediatricians (25.9%), 62 pediatric resident…
Influenza vaccination among healthcare workers in a multidisciplinary University hospital in Italy
Despite strong recommendations, influenza vaccination coverage seemed to be very low among HCWs of all specialties, with differences between areas and types of employment. Specific continuous educational and vaccination programs for different targets should be urgently organized to reduce morbidity and mortality in high-risk patients, contain nosocomial outbreaks, and ensure an appropriate socioeconomic impact
