Open Access•Joan Vergés Gifra, Joan Vergés-Gifra•ARTICLE•TSN Transatlantic Studies Network•2023

  • Religion without Dworkin

  • A typology of arguments in defence of a coercive language policy favouring a cultural minority

Joan Vergés Gifra, Joan Vergés-Gifra•ARTICLE•Ethnic and Racial Studies•2014•Cited by: 4•References: 24

What kind of arguments can be used to justify a coercive language policy favouring the language of a cultural minority over the majority language of a state? To answer this question we will focus mainly on the language policy of the Catalan government and, to a lesser extent, on the language policies of the Basque Country and Quebec. Our aim is to develop a typology of arguments and try to show that each argument resorts to a different reason for…

  • “God does not exist, but the Holy Mother of Montserrat does”

Joan Vergés Gifra•ARTICLE•Archiv für Rechts- und…•2013

In this paper, we shall consider the question of whether, in a context such as that of Spain that is, a context where a particular religion has been historically dominant, and within the boundaries of political liberalism, it is possible to find a reasonable argument in favour of what is termed positive laicism. In order to do so, we must first briefly clarify what this type of laicism consists of. Below we shall explore some of the arguments whi…

  • El "giro hermenéutico" del liberalismo político rawlsiano

Open Access•Joan Vergés Gifra, Joan Vergés-Gifra•ARTICLE•ENDOXA•2005

  • Entrevista a R. M. Hare
