Longitudinal associations between cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome and sensory impairments in Chinese middle-aged and older adults
Sensory impairments significantly contribute to functional decline in aging populations, yet their relationship with the newly defined cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome remains poorly understood. This study examined the longitudinal associations between CKM syndrome stages and incident sensory impairments among middle-aged and older Chinese adults. Data were derived from 12,815 participants (aged ≥ 45 years) in the China Health and R…
Association of multimorbidity patterns with potential out-of-hospital clinical service needs
Background: The rising prevalence of multimorbidity strains hospital-centric healthcare. Urgent attention is needed to understand potential out-of-hospital health service needs and inform policy for effective public health practices. Methods: Utilizing data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), we first employed latent class analysis (LCA) to identify distinct patterns of multimorbidity. Subsequently, basic characteris…
Bidirectional longitudinal associations between estimated muscle mass and self-reported chronic lung disease in middle-aged and older adults
There is a bidirectional relationship between self-reported CLD and low estimated muscle mass. Self-reported CLD may cause varying degrees of estimated muscle mass reduction across different population subgroups. Understanding this dynamic and its variations can enhance prevention and treatment strategies for both conditions
