  • A cohort study of self-perception of ageing and all-cause mortality among older adults in China

Open Access•Junling Gao, Huashuai Chen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

In this cohort study, we found that high positive SPA was associated with decreased all-cause mortality directly, and indirectly through healthy lifestyle behaviors and social participation. These findings suggest that interventions targeted at promoting or maintaining positive SPA may contribute to healthy ageing among older adults in China

  • Associations between trajectories of social participation and functional ability among older adults

Open Access•Jiaqin Xu, Jixiang Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Introduction: Functional ability (FA) and social participation (SP) are important indicators of healthy aging, both their trajectories are heterogeneous. It is little known about how the SP trajectories affects FA trajectories. Methods: FA was assessed by 20 items covering the ability of meeting basic needs and mobility. SP was assessed by frequency of participating in 10 social activities. Group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) was used to ident…

  • Association between resilience and frailty among Chinese older adults

Open Access•Yujie Wang, Yingwei Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Higher strength was associated with lower chance of being pre-frail and frail among Chinese older adults. This finding implies that community-based training programs aiming to enhance psychological resilience, especially strength, may contribute to healthy aging. Future studies should examine the effects of resilience on frailty using longitudinal or experimental study designs in cross-cultural contexts

  • Association Between Sense of Coherence and Frailty

Open Access•Hao Chen, Hua Fu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

SOC may be a protective factor against frailty. Improving SOC may be a strategy to prevent frailty among Chinese community-dwelling older adults

  • Development and Validation of the Chinese Frailty Screening Scale

Open Access•Bo Ye, Yi Wang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The CFSS-10 has good validity and reliability as a quick and acculturative frailty screening scale for community-dwelling older adults in Shanghai. It may also supplement existing frailty screening tools

  • Association between Age-Friendliness of Communities and Frailty among Older Adults

Open Access•Jixiang Xu, Yingwei Chen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

An age-friendly environment is one of the measures of healthy aging. However, there is scarce evidence of the relationship between the age-friendliness of communities (AFC) and frailty status among Chinese older adults. This study aims to examine this relationship using a multilevel analysis with the data of a cross-sectional study conducted among 10,958 older adults living in 43 communities in four cities in China. The validated Age-friendly Com…
