  • Dental Caries Prevalence and Experience (Icdas II Criteria) of 5-, 12- and 15-Year-Old Children and Adolescents with an Immigrant Background in Greece, Compared with the Host Population

Open Access•Iliana Diamanti, Elias Berdouses et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Evidence regarding disparities in oral health among native and immigrant child and adolescent populations in Europe is scarce. The present study aimed to determine the caries status of 5-, 12-, and 15-year-olds with an immigrant background in Greece in relation to their sociodemographic characteristics and compare their caries levels with those of their native Greek peers. A sample of 707 immigrants underwent clinical examination for caries (ICDA…

  • Risk indicators of coronal and root caries in Greek middle aged adults and senior citizens

    Open Access•Eleni Mamai-Homata, Vassiliki Topitsoglou et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Caries experience in Greek adults is similar to what is observed in most industrialized countries. The mean DMFT score of the 35-44-year-olds has not improved since 1985, but a great improvement in restorative care has been observed. Senior citizens had a high percentage of untreated coronal and root surfaces. Region and education were the strongest predictors of caries experience. An increase in oral care utilization and effective prevention ove…

  • Lipoprotein types, serum cholesterol, and ABO blood groups

    Argy Polychronopoulou, C J Miras et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1974•References: 2

Among 48 cases with primary hyperlipoproteinaemia (HLP) type II, 27 (56%) were of blood group A, while among 35 cases with primary HLP type IV, only 11 (31%) were of this blood group. The difference is large and statistically significant. Since serum cholesterol levels are fairly or very high in HLP type II, it is suggested that the known weak association between blood group A and serum cholesterol is a reflection of a more direct association bet…
