  • Eficiencia versus eficacia recaudatoria.

    Open Access•Juan José Martínez Barraza•ARTICLE•Estudios Atacameños Arqueología y…•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 15

Despite consensus in specialized historiography regarding the swelling of the Spanish Royal Indian Treasuries in the late colonial period, the evidence to support the claim has generally been total tax revenues. In other words, it is based only on collection effectiveness, not efficiency, which would also account for fiscal performance and the ratios between net tax proceeds, collection cost and tax revenue. This paper addresses this deficit in S…

Moving beyond the customary study of local markets, it combines newly located tax, custom and notarial records with recent studies to describe the intercontinental slave trade in the Southern Cone. It demonstrates how Lima’s demand for labor lay beh…

This article deals with the trade of local merchandise in Santiago's district (Corregimiento) from 1773 to 1778, based on tributary sources. It contributes to the debate on the organization of the colonial internal market. The main traded merchandise, which represented about 80% of Chilean exports, came from the cattle exploitation that was developed in the haciendas around Santiago, whose cattle stocks were complemented from neighboring province…
