  • Desirability biases perceptual decisions in the aversive domain

    Haena Kim, A Q Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2025

Perceptual judgments are often influenced by goals and preferences, resulting in biased judgments that deviate from objective reality. When presented with ambiguous images, observers are biased to report seeing images associated with rewards. However, it remains unclear whether this is driven by a bias toward stimuli that are desirable or stimuli that are motivationally salient. As rewards are both desirable and motivationally salient, these effe…

  • Overgeneralization of conditioned fear in patients with social anxiety disorder

Open Access•Yoonji Irene Lee, Dasom Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Taken together, our findings suggest that SAD patients may exhibit a tendency towards overgeneralization of fear responses and show distinct patterns in processing generalized threat stimuli compared to healthy controls. Even though overgeneralization was not evident in physiological measures, it is necessary to consider this behavioral characteristic in the clinical management of patients with SAD

  • Awareness and Needs of Smoking Cessation Services for Female Emotional Laborers, Parcel Delivery Workers, Transportation Workers, and Construction Workers in South Korea

    Open Access•Dahyeon Lee, Kang‐Sook Lee et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Although South Korea has implemented various smoking cessation services, women who are emotional laborers, as well as parcel delivery, transportation, and construction workers, have poor access to these services. This study evaluated the smoking-related characteristics of workers in these four occupations as well as the awareness of and need for smoking cessation services. In total 808 workers in these four occupations aged 19 years and above wer…

  • Combined influence of valence and statistical learning on the control of attention: Evidence for independent sources of bias

  • Association of Stress Management with Success of Smoking Cessation in Korean Female Emotional Labor Workers for Service and Sales

    Open Access•Haena Kim, Kang‐Sook Lee et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Emotional labor is paid work that involves managing and regulating one's emotions during the job including evoking and suppressing one's feelings. This study examined the factors associated with successful smoking cessation through tailored smoking cessation counseling including stress management among female emotional labor workers. The study was conducted from 1 September 2015 to 31 December 2017. A total of 2674 women registered in the Compreh…

  • Success Factors for Tobacco Smoking Cessation Among Korean Female College Student Smokers

Open Access•Haena Kim, Kang‐Sook Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Health•2020

  • How does the attention system learn from aversive outcomes

    Open Access•Haena Kim, Brian A Anderson•ARTICLE•Emotion•2020

Learning about aversive outcomes plays a role in the guidance of attention. Classical conditioning generates a bias to predictors of aversive outcomes, whereas instrumental learning potentiates a negatively reinforced avoidance behavior, which can be difficult to dissociate in the case of attention to aversively conditioned stimuli. The present study examined the relative contribution from these two learning processes to the control of attention.…

  • Psychological Resilience Enhances the Orbitofrontal Network in the Elderly With Mild Cognitive Impairment

Open Access•Sang Joon Son, Bumhee Park et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2019

Background: It has been suggested that maintaining the efficient organization of the brain's functional connectivity (FC) supports neuroflexibility under neurogenerative stress. This study examined psychological resilience-related FC in 112 older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods: Using a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) approach, we investigated reorganization of the orbitofrontal gyrus (OFG)/amygdala…

  • Predictors of Abstinence from Smoking: A Retrospective Study of Male College Students Enrolled in a Smoking Cessation Service

    Open Access•Yeji Lee, Kang‐Sook Lee et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

There were high smoking rates among young male college students in Korea. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of and factors affecting abstinence from smoking following smoking cessation service attendance in this population. Data were collected between 1 August 2015 and 20 August 2018. Participants were administered more than nine face-to-face and telephone counseling sessions by trained tobacco cessation specialists for six months. Follow-up…

  • Intersections and Non-Intersections: A Protocol for Identifying Pedestrian Crash Risk Locations in GIS

Open Access•Min-Gyu Kang, Anne V Moudon et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Intersection and non-intersection locations are commonly used as spatial units of analysis for modeling pedestrian crashes. While both location types have been previously studied, comparing results is difficult given the different data and methods used to identify crash-risk locations. In this study, a systematic and replicable protocol was developed in GIS (Geographic Information System) to create a consistent spatial unit of analysis for use in…
