E-cigarette use and associated factors among adolescents and young adults in northern Thailand
Introduction E-cigarette use is an emerging public health concern among adolescents and young adults, with limited population-based evidence on recent use and correlates in Thailand beyond school-based samples. Our study aimed to examine e-cigarette use and its associated factors among adolescents and young adults aged 15–29 years in Northern Thailand using data from a population-based household survey. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional anal…
Sociodemographic inequalities in product-specific tobacco use in Myanmar
Introduction Tobacco use remains a major preventable cause of disease in low- and middle-income countries, and nationally representative evidence distinguishing tobacco product types in Myanmar remains limited. We aimed to provide nationally representative, product-specific estimates of smoked, smokeless, and dual tobacco use among individuals aged 15–49 years in Myanmar using data from the 2015–2016 Demographic and Health Survey, and to examine …
Behavioral smoking cessation outcomes among industrial workers in Myanmar following a health belief model-based health education and mobile phone short message service intervention
Introduction Evidence on theory-based workplace smoking cessation interventions in low- and middle-income countries remains limited, particularly regarding longitudinal behavioral outcomes. Our study aimed to examine the longitudinal associations between a Health Belief Model-based smoking cessation intervention and smoking-related behavioral outcomes among industrial workers in Myanmar. Methods A quasi-experimental, two-group longitudinal study …
Implementation Gaps and Governance Challenges in Thailand’s Community Liquor Law Reform
Thailand’s Community Liquor Law Reform aimed to encourage small-scale alcohol production in 2022. Early evidence suggests a mismatch between legislative changes and the capacity of existing institutions to implement them. This study aims to examine governance challenges, stakeholder experiences, and implementation gaps during the early phase of the reform across four provinces. A qualitative policy analysis was performed through semi-structured i…
Functional-Belief-Based Alcohol Use Questionnaire (FBAQ) as a Pre-Screening Tool for High-Risk Drinking Behaviors among Young Adults
The FBAQ contains only three simple belief questions and does not require unintelligible standard drink calculation. Implementing the FBAQ score and the AUDIT in a serial manner might be a more effective method in a mass-screening program for alcohol-use disorder in young adults
Health-Risk Behaviours and Injuries among Youth and Young Adults in Chiang Mai, Thailand
This study aimed to identify the prevalence of health-risk behaviours (alcohol use, tobacco smoking and gambling) and the associations between health-risk behaviours and injuries among youth (15-24 years) and young adults (25-39 years). A multi-stage cluster sampling survey was conducted in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The associations between health-risk behaviours and injuries were analysed using logistic regression and adjusted for potential confound…
Risk-Minimizing Belief
Risk-minimizing beliefs refer to the underestimation of the health risks of particular behaviors. The aim of the study was to investigate the associations between risk-minimizing belief with smoking and the risk of harms from smoking in Northern Thailand (N=3,865). Adjusting for potential confounders, risk-minimizing belief was inversely associated with lifelong abstinence, positively associated with increased risk of being a current smoker, and …
Capability of Thailand to implement newborn male circumcision
This study was designed to gain baseline information on the capability of the hospitals of Thailand to provide newborn male circumcision (NC) and on the opinions of health-care personnel towards NC. Two questionnaires were sent to every hospital in Thailand that might have obstetrical services. One questionnaire requested information about the degree to which NC was provided by the hospital. The second questionnaire targeted health-care providers…
