Open Access•Dinorah Azpuru, Dexter Boniface et al.•ARTICLE•Latin American Research Review•2015

This article examines the breadth and depth of anti-Americanism in contemporary Latin America. Using individual-level data from 2012, we employ regression analysis to understand why some Latin American citizens are more likely than others to distrust the government of the United States. By examining the attitudes of citizens of countries that are part of different groupings—such as the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas and the Pacific Alliance…

  • Is Hong Kong Democratizing

Dexter S Boniface, Ilai Alon et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Survey•2010•Cited by: 1

We argue that the transition to Chinese authority has not undermined democratic governance in Hong Kong and that voice and accountability have improved since the handover. Indeed, Tilly argues that “the fundamental processe…

The preamble of the Organization of American States (OAS) Charter is explicit about a commitment to representative democracy as indispensable condition for the stability, peace and development of the region. (1) However, in the four decades after inception in 1948, the OAS failed to develop a consistent policy regarding the promotion of democracy in the hemisphere. For instance, while the Cuban government was suspended from the OAS in 1962 for in…

    Dexter Boniface, Dexter S Boniface et al.•ARTICLE•Comparative Politics•2001•Cited by: 2•References: 2

Over the last decade rational choice and formal theory have gained increasing prominence in comparative politics, portending a potential analytic revolution in the field. Like the behavioral revolution of the 1960s, the analytic revolution of the 1990s is motivated in part by the desire to make comparative politics more rigorous by utilizing analytical tools such as game theory and spatial models developed largely by economists and positivist sch…
