  • Is “Self-Experience” Really a Transdiagnostic Concept? Preliminary Evidence in Favor of the Transdiagnostic Conception of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy

    Open Access•Ana María González Palma, Laura C Sánchez-Sánchez et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP) offers a radically behavioral and transdiagnostic conception of the formation of the "self" and the appearance of a diversity of psychological problems. This study examined the extent to which a wide variety of psychological disorders (somatization, obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility/aggressiveness, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, and psychoticism) and a globa…

The goal of this study is to better understand the relation between the practice of Mindfulness and the sexual activity, sexual satisfaction and erotic fantasies of Spanish-speaking participants. A cross-sectional study was done using an anonymous online survey in which 412 participants filled out the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-2; th…

    Open Access•Cristina Petisco, Laura C Sánchez-Sánchez et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Eating disorders are associated with short and long-term consequences that can affect sports performance. The purposes of this study were to investigate whether female athletes, particularly gymnasts and footballers, exhibit more eating problems compared to female non-athletes, and to identify individual personality characteristics including anxiety, self-esteem, and perfectionism as possible contributors to eating disorder risk. In a sample of 1…

  • Affinities in the phenomenological perspective of schizophrenia and recent cognitive research

    Open Access•José M García‐Montes, José Manuel García-Montes et al.•ARTICLE•Theory & Psychology•2012

This work presents affinities existing between the phenomenological view of schizophrenia and recent cognitive research on this disorder. We postulate that the core abnormality in schizophrenia is a particular kind of disturbance of the sense of self, which has two main aspects, an enhanced sense of awareness or hyperreflexivity, and diminished self-affection. Noticeable parallels are shown between “hyperreflexivity” and some cognitive models and…

  • The Role of Personality Variables in Drug Abuse in a Spanish University Population

    Open Access•José M García-Montes, José M García‐Montes et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Mental…•2008

  • Changes in the self resulting from the use of mobile phones

    Open Access•José M García-Montes, José M García‐Montes et al.•ARTICLE•Media Culture & Society•2006•Cited by: 5•References: 9

The present work examines the potential consequences of the use of mobile telephones on people’s behaviour and identity. In doing so, we start from the premise that, even though this technology may have different effects in different cultural contexts, it promotes and foments certain patterns of behaviour and of understanding one’s own identity. It is suggested that this new identity goes hand in hand with a spatial-temporal recomposition of the …
