Dedalo Vola project
Several studies have been conducted that show the crucial role of active participation in music in health promotion (e.g. Dingle et al., 2021; Sheppard & Broughton, 2020); however, little research has focused on the biopsychosocial effects of choral singing. The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness, in terms of improving physiological and psychosocial factors, of a choral program for middle-aged and older individuals. We integrated ou…
Is the mental health of couples with twins more at risk? Results from an Italian cohort study
Contrary to expectations, no substantial psychological differences emerged between parents of twins and singletons. Adjusting for confounders through univariate analysis maintained nonsignificant trends. Nevertheless, caution in interpretation is warranted due to strict inclusion criteria favoring twin pregnancies with better outcomes. Unintended bias could have resulted from routine psychological support offered to mothers of twins in our clinic…
Prevalence of Antimicrobial Prescribing in Long-Term Care Facilities in a Local Health Authority of Northern Italy
This study identified a low prevalence of antimicrobic consumption in LTCFs. Further surveillance studies are warranted to identify trends and changes in pathogen incidence and antimicrobial resistance and to inform public health authorities on the necessity of prudent use of antimicrobials in LCTFs
Georeferencing of Covid-19 Positive Nasopharyngeal Swabs to Support Emergency Management in an Area of Northern Italy
Spatial distribution heterogeneity of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been observed in several countries. While previous studies have covered vast geographic areas, detailed analyses on smaller territories are not available to date. The aim of our study was to understand the spatial spread of SARS-CoV-2 in a province of Northern Italy through the analysis of positive nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs. The study was conduc…
Use of State Sequence Analysis in Pharmacoepidemiology
While state sequence analysis (SSA) has been long used in social sciences, its use in pharmacoepidemiology is still in its infancy. Indeed, this technique is relatively easy to use, and its intrinsic visual nature may help investigators to untangle the latent information within prescription data, facilitating the individuation of specific patterns and possible inappropriate use of medications. In this paper, we provide an educational primer of th…
The Early Detection of Osteoporosis in a Cohort of Healthcare Workers
Workforce aging is becoming a significant public health problem due to the resulting emergence of age-related diseases, such as osteoporosis. The prevention and early detection of osteoporosis is important to avoid bone fractures and their socio-economic burden. The aim of this study is to evaluate the sustainability of a screening workplace program able to detect workers with osteoporosis. The screening process included a questionnaire-based ris…
High Seroprevalence of Sars-CoV-2 among Healthcare Workers in a North Italy Hospital
The high seroprevalence observed can be partially explained by the timing and the population seroprevalence; the study was conducted in an area with huge spread of the infection
Evaluation of Nonresponse Bias in a Case–Control Study of Pleural Mesothelioma
Nonparticipation limits the power of epidemiological studies, and can cause bias. In a case-control study on pleural malignant mesothelioma (MM), we found low participation in interviews (63%) among controls. Our goal was to characterize nonresponder controls and assess nonresponse bias in our study. We selected all nonresponder controls (204) and a random sample of responder controls (174). Data were obtained linking hospital admissions and town…
