The machine learning model based on trajectory analysis of ribonucleic acid test results predicts the necessity of quarantine in recurrently positive patients with Sars-CoV-2 infection
Background: SARS-CoV-2 patients re-experiencing positive nucleic acid test results after recovery is a concerning phenomenon. Current pandemic prevention strategy demands the quarantine of all recurrently positive patients. This study provided evidence on whether quarantine is required in those patients, and predictive algorithms to detect subjects with infectious possibility. Methods: This observational study recruited recurrently positive patie…
Use of proton pump inhibitors are associated with higher mortality in hospitalized patients with Covid-19
BACKGROUND: The adverse effects of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) on pneumonia have been well reported. However, the relationship between the use of PPIs and the adverse outcomes of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is currently inconclusive. In this study, we aimed to explore the relationship between the use of PPIs and the in-hospital mortality among patients who were laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2. METHODS: Data was derived from 2 hospitals …
Pollution and Risk Assessments of Heavy Metal(loid)s in the Soil around Lead-Zinc Smelteries via Data Integration Analysis
Pb-Zn smelting is a major cause of heavy metal(loid) contaminations in soils. We collected data on heavy metal(loid)s in the soils near Pb-Zn smelteries globally from 54 peer-reviewed reports to study the metals' distribution, pollution index, and potential ecological and health risks. We observed that 90% of the studied Pb-Zn smelteries were distributed in Asia and Europe. Heavy metal(loid)s were mainly deposited within a 2 km distance to the sm…
Distribution Characteristics and Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Soil and Street Dust with Different Land Uses, a Case in Changsha, China
Rapid urbanization and industrialization have led to the accumulation of heavy metals in urban areas. The distribution and health risk of heavy metals in soil and street dust were studied by collecting the samples in pairs from different land uses in Changsha, China. The results showed that the average contents of the heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Cr and Ni in the soil were 45.3, 0.69, 46.3, 220.4, 128.7 and 32.9 mg·kg -1 , and the corresponding h…
Effect of Liming with Various Water Regimes on Both Immobilization of Cadmium and Improvement of Bacterial Communities in Contaminated Paddy
Cadmium (Cd) in paddy soil is one of the most harmful potentially toxic elements threatening human health. In order to study the effect of lime combined with intermittent and flooding conditions on the soil pH, Cd availability and its accumulation in tissues at the tillering, filling and maturity stages of rice, as well as enzyme activity and the microbial community in contaminated soil, a field experiment was conducted. The results showed that l…
Health Risk Assessment of Trace Metals in Various Environmental Media, Crops and Human Hair from a Mining Affected Area
Long term exposure to trace metals in various media is of great concern for people living in known pollution sources, such as mining and industrial activities. Health risk assessment and human hair analysis can provide important information for local environmental management. Information on distribution characteristics of trace metals in soil, water, sediment, air, local crops, and human hair from a typical mining area in southern China was colle…
