Implementing digital technologies in microbiological monitoring and antimicrobial resistance assessment in intensive care units
BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infections remain a major challenge of modern medical practice, with multidrug-resistant strains representing the most clinically significant pathogens. A central problem is the widespread dissemination of Klebsiella pneumoniae in intensive care units. This prevalence is associated with the severe condition of patients, for whom infection with multidrug-resistant strains exacerbates the underlying disease, extend…
Study of the Relationship between the Average Annual Temperature of Atmospheric Air and the Number of Tick-Bitten Humans in the North of European Russia
In recent decades, a considerable increase in the number of tick-bitten humans has been recorded in the north of European Russia. At the same time, significant climatic changes, such as an increase in air temperature, were noticed in this region. The northern border of the ixodidae distribution area lies in the north of European Russia, therefore the analysis of the population dynamics is of particular interest regarding the possible impact of th…
Epidemiological Character of Tick-Borne Viral Encephalitis Extension in the Arkhangelsk Region
The regional characteristics of the epidemic process and the incidence rates of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in the Arkhangelsk region have been examined in the paper. In the period 2005 -2015 the annual TBE incidence rates per 100 thousand population were from 2,0 to 5,4 times higher as compared to the corresponding averages reported for the whole population of the Russian Federation. The most possible causes of the increased incidence rates of…
Features of Viral Contamination of Drinking Water in Arkhangelsk Region
Goal of study: to carry out an analysis of drinking water viral contamination dynamics in the Arkhangelsk region for development of proposals improving water supply of the population. In order to reveal markers of viral contamination in water, there have been carried out examinations of water samples by a laboratory in the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Arkhangelsk Region from 2006 to 2014 with use of different methods. With use of th…
Hygienic Assessment of Working Conditions Impact on Morbidity With Temporal Disability of Workers in Vessel Metal Hulls Assembly Shop of Machine Building Plant
In the article, there have been presented the results of assessment of working conditions' impact on workers of a vessel metal hulls assembly shop of a machine building plant on levels of morbidity with temporal disability (MTD). The assessment of the working conditions has been made according to the results of the assessment of workplaces, the levels of MTD - on the ground of the longterm average annual indices for 2005-2014. The cause-and-effec…
Study of Human Health Under Big Industrial Plant Exposure Using Health Risk Assessment and Epidemiological Study Methods
Hygienic studies conducted to establish and evaluate harmful effects of environmental factors in the affected area of the Solombalsky Pulp and Paper Mill (the Northern District of Arkhangelsk) on health of the Arkhangelsk population have detected specific chemicals that could cause changes in human health. In assessment of the risk of harmful effects due to chronic exposure to chemicals, there have been considered two types of effects: carcinogen…
Assessment of Soil Epidemic Hazard in Arkhangelsk Region
Assessment of soil epidemic hazard in the Arkhangelsk region was carried out using the data of monitoring in 20072010. Incidence of geohelminthoses among the Arkhangelsk region population in 1995-2010 has been analyzed. The level of soil contamination by microorganisms of E. coli group in the urban areas was 10 times higher in comparison with the rural areas
Chemical Contamination of Food and Its Impact on Population Health in Arkhangelsk Region
Food contamination in the Arkhangelsk region has been studied. The average concentration of nitrates (82.4 mg/kg) in vegetables and fruits of local production was 1.4 times higher comparing to the hygienic standard. The hazard index (HI) and the individual cancer risk index (CR) were used to study contaminants impact on health. Non-cancer risk was dangerous for the nervous (HI = 4.9), cardiovascular (HI = 4.4), immune (HI = 4.7) systems, skin (HI…
The impact of climate change on the expansion of Ixodes persulcatus habitat and the incidence of tick-borne encephalitis in the north of European Russia
BACKGROUND: The increase in tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) incidence is observed in recent decades in a number of subarctic countries. The reasons of it are widely discussed in scientific publications. The objective of this study was to understand if the climate change in Arkhangelsk Oblast (AO) situated in the north of European subarctic zone of Russia has real impact on the northward expansion of Ixodid ticks and stipulates the increase in TBE i…
