  • Clinical Application of Pediatric Sleep Endoscopy

Open Access•Giannicola Iannella, Giuseppe Magliulo et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2024

Pediatric DISE is internationally considered to be a safe and effective procedure for identifying sites of obstruction and collapse after adenotonsillectomy in children with residual OSA. This is also useful in cases of patients with craniofacial malformations, small tonsils, laryngomalacia or Down syndrome to identify the actual site(s) of collapse. Despite this evidence, our survey highlighted that pediatric DISE is not used in different sleep …

  • Friedman Tongue Position and the Anthropometric Parameters in Adult Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Open Access•Valeria Luzzi, Federica Altieri et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

although the FTP was not directly associated with OSAS severity, there was also evidence that an FTP increase is associated with an increase in the considered anthropometric parameters, and FTP can be a clinical tool used in the assessment of risk for OSAS risk factors

  • Long-Term Subjective Outcomes of Barbed Reposition Pharyngoplasty for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome Treatment

Open Access•Giannicola Iannella, Bianca Vallicelli et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Background : The purpose of this study was to evaluate long-term subjective outcomes of barbed reposition pharyngoplasty for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) treatment using a specific questionnaire, the Palate Postoperative Problem Score (PPOPS). Methods : 140 patients who underwent barbed reposition pharyngoplasty (BRP) surgery in the Morgagni Pierantoni Hospital of Forlì, Italy were enrolled in the study. Postoperative outcomes were eva…

  • Voice-Related Quality of Life in Post-Laryngectomy Rehabilitation

Open Access•Salvatore Cocuzza, Antonino Maniaci et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

    (1) Introduction: Laryngeal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer affecting the upper aerodigestive tract. Despite ensuring good oncological outcome in many locoregionally advanced cases, total laryngectomy is associated with relevant physical and psychological sequelae. Treatment through tracheo-esophageal speech, if promising, can lead to very variable outcomes. Not all laryngectomee patients with vocal prosthesis benefit from the sa…

  • Positional Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome in Elderly Patients

Open Access•Giannicola Iannella, Giuseppe Magliulo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Background The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of position-dependent obstructive sleep apnea (POSA) in elderly patients (≥65 years old). Adult (range 19-65 years old) and elderly patients were also compared in order to show differences in the incidence of POSA between these two groups of patients. Methods A prospective bi-center study was performed between January 2018 and May 2019. A total of 434 participants underwent polys…

  • Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Diagnosis in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Patients Using the Pepsin Salivary Test

Open Access•Giannicola Iannella, Claudio Vicini et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

A high number of patients with OSA seem to show positivity for salivary pepsin, correlated to an LPR. There does not appear to be a correlation between the severity of apnea and the grade of salivary pepsin reflux. On the other hand, direct correlation between BMI and the value of pepsin in salivary specimens was observed
