Impact of natural and socio-economic factors on varicella incidence in children in Shanghai, 2013-2022
Background: Since varicella is already known to be a globally distributed disease, the focus should be more on its transmissibility or disease burden. The incidence of varicella is affected by natural and socio-economic factors. However, it is unclear how these factors synergetically impact the dynamics of varicella transmission and control. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of varicella cases in children aged 0-17 years from 2013 to…
Parental vaccine hesitancy and acceptance of a Covid-19 vaccine
COVID-19 vaccination rates for children globally are relatively low. This study aimed to investigate parental vaccine hesitancy and parents’ acceptance of a COVID-19 for their children for their children in the United States, China, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. We analyzed data from an opt-in, internet-based cross-sectional study (n = 23,940). A study of Covid-19 vaccination in the US and Asia
The COVID-19 pandemic presents an opportunity to assess the relationship between personal experiences and vaccine decision-making. The aim of this study was to examine the associations between experiences with COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination status. We administered 28 repeated cross-sectional, online surveys between June 2020 and June 2021 in the US and Asia. The main exposure was media showing COVID-19 cases, and we distinguished those with no…
Intention and Attitude to Accept a Pertussis Cocooning Vaccination among Chinese Children’s Guardians
Chinese children's guardians held positive intentions and attitudes toward accepting a pertussis cocooning vaccination. The current findings described the determinants of such intention and attitude and provided knowledge based on improving guardians' intentions for policymakers if cocooning vaccinations or related immunization strategies are implemented in China in the future
Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of 23-Valent Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine Program for the Elderly Aged 60 Years or Older in Shanghai, China
Background: The pneumococcal vaccine has been considered as the most effective measure to prevent pneumococcal diseases. In 2013, Shanghai launched a major public health program to vaccinate people aged 60 years or older with 23-Valent Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine (PPSV-23) free of charge. By the end of June 2020, a total of 1.56 million old people had been vaccinated free of charge. Objective: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of PPSV-23…
Effectiveness of 23-Valent Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine Against Pneumococcal Diseases Among the Elderly Aged 60 Years or Older
Background: Streptococcus pneumoniae infection among adults, especially in adults over 60 years old in China results in a large number of hospitalizations and a substantial financial burden. This study assessed the vaccine effectiveness (VE) of 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23) against pneumococcal diseases among the elderly aged 60 years or older in Shanghai, China. Methods: We conducted a test-negative case–control study amo…
Cross-Sectional Seroepidemiologic Study of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) among Close Contacts, Children, and Migrant Workers in Shanghai
(1) Background: Along with an increasing risk caused by migrant workers returning to the urban areas for the resumption of work and production and growing epidemiological evidence of possible transmission during the incubation period, a study of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is warranted among key populations to determine the serum antibody against the SARS-CoV-2 and the carrying status of SARS-CoV-2 to identify potential asymptomatic infec…
