The relationship of kinesiophobia in patients with lymphedema
Considering the apparent tendency of people with lower limb lymphedema to present kinesiophobia and movement-limiting beliefs regarding the condition, greater attention should be paid to its assessment, prevention and treatment from a multidisciplinary and multimodal perspective, which takes into account the multiplicity of factors inherent to kinesiophobia and lymphedema and thus reduce their impact on the management of lymphedema
Depressive symptoms and their severity in a sample with lymphedema
Considering the apparent tendency to depression, greater attention should be given to the mental health of people with lower limb lymphedema
Impact of Depression on Patients With Hemophilia
Greater depression scores and range status were observed in patients with hemophilia compared to non-patients with hemophilia. Patients with hemophilia are at increased risk of depressiveness
Degree of Impact of Tailor’s Bunion on Quality of Life
Tailor's bunion (TB) disease should be considered one of the foot injuries that causes disability in feet as well as general health. This case-control descriptive study investigated and contrasted the effects of different TB types in a sociodemographic population using the Foot Health Status Questionnaire (FHSQ). A sample of 100 subjects with a mean age of 51.70 ± 17.78 years was recruited and requested to reply to a foot health survey. Results w…
The Impact of Depression Symptoms in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson's disease is a common neurodegenerative disease and it is known to cause motor disturbances associated with musculoskeletal problems of the locomotor apparatus, and non-motor symptoms, that are believed to have a harmful effect on health, social functioning and mobility. The aim of this study was to evaluate depression in patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) compared to subjects who do not have it. The sample consisted of 124 particip…
Ultrasound Imaging Evaluation of Textural Features in Athletes with Soleus Pathology—A Novel Case-Control Study
Athletes with a central tendon injury of soleus muscle showed a lower EI when they were compared to healthy athletes. The echogenicity showed by the quantitative ultrasound imaging measurement may be a more objective parameter for the diagnosis and follow-up the soleus muscle injuries
Heart Rate Variability Monitoring during Interferential Current Application in the Lower Back Area
Vasovagal reactions may occur occasionally during electrical stimulation using interferential current (IFC). The purpose of this study was to examine variations in autonomic activity during the application of IFC in asymptomatic participants by analysis of their heart rate variability (HRV). Seventy-three male volunteers were randomly assigned to a placebo group ( n = 36; HRV was documented for 10 min, both at rest and during a placebo interventi…
Use of the Barthel Index to Assess Activities of Daily Living before and after Sars-Covid 19 Infection of Institutionalized Nursing Home Patients
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the activities of daily living (ADLs) using the Barthel Index before and after infection with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and also to determine whether or not the results varied according to gender. The ADLs of 68 cohabiting geriatric patients, 34 men and 34 women, in two nursing homes were measured before and after SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)) inf…
Sex Differences in Frail Older Adults with Foot Pain in a Spanish Population
Foot pain above 5 points, i.e., from moderate to severe, does not affect the fragility more in one sex than another
Development and Validation of the Overall Foot Pain Questionnaire in Motorcycle Riders
Objectives : Our primary aim was to develop a transcultural adaptation of a cycling questionnaire using the Borg CR-10 scale as a tool to describe the discomfort among motorcyclists during the riding process in two trial sessions. Design : A transcultural adaptation and descriptive cross-sectional study. Settings : Jarama motorcycling circuit (Madrid, Spain). Participants : The participants were riders recorded across in a final motorcycling race…
Stability of Three Different Sanitary Shoes on Healthcare Workers
Sanitary shoes improved podobarometric and stabilometry stability with respect to barefoot condition
Clinical Aspects of Foot Health in Individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer's disease (AD) shows a marked presence of physiologic changes and the start or aggravation of underlying diseases such as physical frailty in diverse anatomical regions. It is believed to have a particularly harmful effect on the health of the foot. We examined the foot health status in older persons with AD, with a specific focus on the extent to which people with AD may be using inadequate footwear in old age. Seventy-three community-…
Foot Arch Height and Quality of Life in Adults
Specific foot and general health-related QoL did not seem to be influenced by the foot arch height between high, normal and low feet arches heights. Nevertheless, further studies with higher sample sizes and matched-paired groups should be carried out
The Relationship between Shoe Fitting and Foot Health of Persons with Down Syndrome
Background : Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal abnormality and a cause of intellectual disability. It is also associated with orthopaedic and musculoskeletal problems of the locomotive apparatus, especially of the feet. These problems are believed to have a harmful effect on health, social functioning, and mobility. In addition, these persons generally don't have access to podiatric health services, even when their foot problems are we…
Translation and Test–Retest of the Spanish Podiatry Health Questionnaire (PHQ-S)
Background : The Podiatric Health Questionnaire (PHQ) is a health-related questionnaire consisting of six questions designed for measuring foot health status. To date, the PHQ has only been validated in the English-language version. Thus, this study aimed to perform the Spanish translation and test−retest procedures of the PHQ (PHQ-S). Method : The forward/backward translation and test−retest reliability methods were applied from English to Spani…
