Open Access•Rafal Zaborowski, Larry Bennett et al.•ARTICLE•Continuum•2025•References: 4

The fourth season of Stranger Things (2022) used Kate Bush’s 1985 single ‘Running up that Hill’ for a key narrative moment, propelling the song back into the charts. This resurgence also inspired new generations of listeners who turned to TikTok to perform covers, analyses or parodies of the song. While TikTok has been discussed as an emerging player in the music industry and as a space of agency and expression, there is still limited understandi…

Susan Fineran, Hermeet K Kohli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Social Work•2022

Historically, most practice-informed research and research-informed practice have focused on domestic violence (DV) victimization. These explanations are often preferred by practitioners, advocates, and policymakers due to their straightforwardness and simplicity. However, an understanding of DV perpetration is enhanced when we look through the multiple lenses of culture and society, relationship, and gender. The objective of this exploratory res…

  • Making the third ghetto

Preston H Smith, Larry Bennett et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Race Ethnicity and the…•2021

Chicago’s third ghetto is a cluster of “thinned out,” outlying neighborhoods that resulted from the demolition of public housing in “second ghetto” neighborhoods surrounding the central business district. The third ghetto shares some of the characteristics of the first and second ghettos—namely, the racial and economic segregation of the resident population. However, it also reveals notable, contemporary features. While the second ghetto was not …

    Iñaki Garcia-Blanco, Larry Bennett et al.•ARTICLE•Journalism Studies•2021•References: 12

The referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU gave citizens the final say on one of the most controversial political issues in modern Britain, crossing social classes, traditional political cleavages, and political parties. In an attempt to examine how the public made sense of Brexit and its potential consequences, we analyse all letters to the editor discussing Brexit or the campaign published in British daily national newspapers in the two m…

Relations between news media and fans have historically been a complicated and complex terrain, with newspaper coverage representing certain and specific elements of fandom, often resulting in fans being depicted as pathological or as social losers and misfits. This chapter seeks to examine how fandom is constructed, represented, and “made sense of” by studying a sample of British newspapers across a ten-year period (2000–2010). It unravels how h…

I demonstrate how normative fan identity within the community is driven by the notion of R.E.M and their music as holding value for the 'thinking' fan and explore the manner in which this is explicitly enforced wh…
