Family-Based Group Intervention Revitalizes the Psychosocial Well-Being of Adolescents with Scoliosis Receiving Brace Treatment
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is characterized by curvature of the spine and uneven shoulders and hips. Bracing remains the most effective non-operative modality for preventing spinal curvature progression among individuals with moderate AIS. However, treatment compliance is often poor owing to the associated physical discomfort and psychosocial problems. Adolescents may also experience consequent family conflict, impacting their emotiona…
Influence of Screen Time during Covid-19 on Health-Related Quality of Life of Early Adolescents
This study investigated the influence of screen time during COVID-19 on the physical and mental domains of the health-related quality of life of early adolescents. A total of 860 early adolescents were recruited. The 36-Item Short Form Health Survey was used to measure their health-related quality of life. The early adolescents reported their average daily time spent using smartphones and computers and watching television over the previous week. …
Adolescents’ Experience during Brace Treatment for Scoliosis
This study aimed to explore the subjective experiences of adolescents with scoliosis during brace treatment in order to understand their obstacles and make recommendations to enhance brace compliance. Using purposive sampling, 15 adolescents (2 males and 13 females) with scoliosis aged from 10 to 16 years old during brace treatment were recruited to participate in semi-structured in-depth interviews. The data were recorded, transcribed, and coded…
Are Morphometric and Biomechanical Characteristics of Lumbar Multifidus Related to Pain Intensity or Disability in People With Chronic Low Back Pain After Considering Psychological Factors or Insomnia
More fear-avoidance belief or insomnia is related to greater LBP-intensity and/or LBP-related disability in people with CLBP. Although people with CLBP were thought to have aberrant LMM morphometry/function, no LMM characteristics were related to LBP-intensity or LBP-related disability after considering other confounders
Electromyographic Analysis of Paraspinal Muscles of Scoliosis Patients Using Machine Learning Approaches
A large number of studies have used electromyography (EMG) to measure the paraspinal muscle activity of adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. However, investigations on the features of these muscles are very limited even though the information is useful for evaluating the effectiveness of various types of interventions, such as scoliosis-specific exercises. The aim of this cross-sectional study is to investigate the characteristics of participan…
