Arabic morphology
Morphological exponence in Arabic verbal morphology deploys at least three concurrent realizational means: affixation, prosodic templatic variation, and stem-vowel alternation or ablaut). Arabic has a construction that expresses a UNIVERSAL PERFECT interpretation. It is here argued that this construction, which is widespread across the different vernaculars, can be analyzed as a possessive perfect construction, a structure thought to be rather rare beyond Indo-European languages spoken in Europe. This paper makes a contribution to our understanding of free relative clauses ( frc s) in Maltese, in particular so-called plain, standard or non - ever free relative clauses. We demonstrate that such frc s are interpreted as definites, consistent with the findings in much previous literature on other languages.
