Holistic grazing management as a scalable niche? A systems perspective on transitions to increased sustainability in beef cattle grazing
Extensive cattle properties have become focal points for examining climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies. This is largely due to their dual role as sites that both release and potentially sequester carbon, depending on management activities. Many global regions have extensive cattle production systems, including the US, South America and Australia. In this qualitative social science research, the Australian beef cattle grazing indus…
Artificial Intelligence and Qualitative Data Analysis: Epistemological Incongruences and the Future of the Human Experience
The rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has inspired scholarship that seeks to make sense of the impacts of AI technology on a wide range of human activity, including social scientific research. The power of AI to synthesise literature, compile information, and generate content is well recognised, yet its performance on some core dimensions of inductive/abductive research, including qualitative data analysis, is less documented and underst…
Digital technology and on-farm responses to climate shocks: Exploring the Relations Between Producer Agency and the Security of Food Production
Recent research into climate shocks and what this means for the on-farm production of food revealed mixed and unanticipated results. Whilst the research was triggered by a series of catastrophic, climate related disruptions, Australian beef producers interviewed for the study downplayed the immediate and direct impacts of climate shocks. When considering the changing nature of production under shifting climatic conditions, producers offered a com…

(DIPF/Orig.)
Pedagogical School Development Between the New Culture of Learning and the Growing Pressure to Modernize
No observer of the educational system can fail to see the conspicuous changes that have taken place in public schools since the 1970s in the German-speaking countries as well as internationally. They foretokened a further transformation of the school, which we are now witnessing directly. The following reflections are aimed, first of all, at rendering intelligible the developments in the school system—both those that have already taken place and …
