  • Correlation between Geochemical and Multispectral Patterns in an Area Severely Contaminated by Former Hg-As Mining

Open Access•Carlos Boente, Lorena Salgado et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2020

In the context of soil pollution, plants suffer stress when exposed to extreme concentrations of potentially toxic elements (PTEs). The alterations to the plants caused by such stressors can be monitored by multispectral imagery in the form of vegetation indices, which can inform pollution management strategies. Here we combined geochemistry and remote sensing techniques to offer a preliminary soil pollution assessment of a vast abandoned spoil h…

  • Classical Biomarker and Quantitative Extended Diamondoid Analysis Fingerprints for Crude Oils from Deepwater Developments in Block 17, Lower Congo Basin, Angola

    Open Access•Carlos Boente, G Márquez et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

The organic geochemistry of six oil samples from the offshore Block 17 (Lower Congo Basin, northwestern Angola) was studied by a combination of classical biomarker and extended diamondoid analyses to elucidate source rock facies, the extent of biodegradation, and thermal maturity. Based on molecular data, oils are interpreted as depicting a mixture of two pulses of hydrocarbon generation probably from the Bucomazi and Malembo formations. Geochemi…
