  • Strategic Approaches to Alleviate Traffic Congestion and Enhance Urban Mobility in Peshawar

Open Access•Hamza Shams, Yanjun Qiu et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Science•2026

Rapid urbanization, uncoordinated land-use growth, and insufficient integration of public transport have led to severe traffic congestion and declining mobility in Peshawar, Pakistan, even after the implementation of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The core research problem addressed in this study is the mismatch between growing travel demand and the limited capacity, coverage, and operational efficiency of the existing urban transport network.…

  • Optimizing Jatropha curcas bioenergy plantations in Pakistan

Open Access•Faisal Khalid, Sami Ullah et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2024

Bioenergy from energy plants, an alternative fuel, is projected to increasingly meet future worldwide energy demands as well as those of a developing nation like Pakistan. Jatropha curcas ( JC ) has been found to possess many desirable qualities, including high oil content seeds (27–40 %), rapid growth, ease of growing, tolerance to drought, ability to grow on poor soil and wasteland, needing less nutrient input and management, and not interferin…

  • Genome-Wide Mapping of Consanguineous Families Confirms Previously Implicated Gene Loci and Suggests New Loci in Specific Language Impairment (SLI)

Open Access•Adnan Yousaf, Huma Hafeez et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2024

Specific language impairment (SLI) is a developmental disorder with substantial genetic contributions. A genome-wide linkage analysis and homozygosity mapping were performed in five consanguineous families from Pakistan. The highest LOD scores of 2.49 at 12p11.22-q11.21 in family PKSLI-31 and 1.92 at 6p in family PKSLI-20 were observed. Homozygosity mapping showed a loss of heterozygosity on 1q25.3-q32.2 and 2q36.3-q37.3 in PKSLI-20. A loss of he…

  • Exploring the Relationship between Attitudes, Risk Perceptions, Fatalistic Beliefs, and Pedestrian Behaviors in China

Open Access•Mingyu Liu, Jianping Wu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Road safety has become a worldwide public health concern. Although many factors contribute to collisions, pedestrian behaviors can strongly influence road safety outcomes. This paper presents results of a survey investigating the effects of age, gender, attitudes towards road safety, fatalistic beliefs and risk perceptions on self-reported pedestrian behaviors in a Chinese example. The study was carried out on 543 participants (229 men and 314 wo…
