Assessment of heavy metals among auto workers in metropolitan city
In recent decades, heavy metals (HMs) have emerged as a global health concern. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, there is a general lack of awareness regarding the potential health risks associated with HMs pollution among automobile workers. Herein, we investigated the concentration of heavy metals such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and chromium (Cr) among automobile workers who were occupationally exposed in Mingora City, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. …
Cytotoxicity Assessment of PM2.5 Collected from Specific Anthropogenic Activities in Taiwan
Fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) from different sources with different components have different health impact. In this research in Taiwan, composition and cytotoxicity of PM 2.5 from long-range transport event (LRT), traffic activity, and outdoor cooking at night market were studied. The PM 2.5 mass concentrations were 39.0 μg/m 3 during LRT, 42.9 μg/m 3 at traffic area, and 28.3 μg/m 3 at the night market. Traffic area had highest concentratio…
Combination of a Fast Cleanup Procedure and a DR-Calux® Bioassay for Dioxin Surveillance in Taiwanese Soils
Our goal was to determine dioxin levels in 800 soil samples collected from Taiwan. An in vitro DR-CALUX® assay was carried out with the help of an automated Soxhlet system and fast cleanup column. The mean dioxin level of 800 soil samples was 36.0 pg-bioanalytical equivalents (BEQs)/g dry weight (d.w.). Soil dioxin-BEQs were higher in northern Taiwan (61.8 pg-BEQ/g d.w.) than in central, southern, and eastern Taiwan (22.2, 24.9, and 7.80 pg-BEQ/g…
