After adjusting for differences in the predisposing, enabling, and need characteristics, there were virtually no meaningful differences in the use of health services between veterans an…
The formation of coalitions
Audio tapes of encounters between a physician, an elderly patient and an accompanying relative are used to describe the formation of coalitions in triadic relationships. A coalition is defined as interaction between two members of a triad who adopt a common strategy in contention with the third member. Preliminary analysis suggests that each medical encounter may contain several coalitions which vary in duration, topic, objectives of members and …

This paper reports an evaluation of the use of physician assistants in a small community hospital and in a group practice in the same community. The objectives were to evaluate the perceptions of the role of the physician assistant by others, the acceptance of the assistant role, and changes in these di…

Responses to the open-ended questions revealed that most respondents (40 per cent) felt that Medicare had had no effect at all on their relationships with their…

The factors that discriminate between two identifiable factions (segments) of practicing anesthesiologists are described within the conceptual framework of a social movement as a way of explaining the processes of further development of a profession. Some implications for future developmen…
