Durant les fouilles conduites à la Grotta Continenza (Abruzzes) et à la Grotta delle Veneri (Pouilles), des centaines d’objets d’art mobilier ont été découverts. Dans les niveaux épigravettiens de la Grotta Continenza (couches 29 à 46), 7 pierres peintes en rouge et 83 objets décorés en matière dure animale (os, bois de cervidé, défense de sanglier, coquille de Glycymeris) ont été repérés. Epigravettian Portable Art in Central and Southern Italy
During excavations at the Grotta Continenza (Abruzzo) and the Grotta delle Veneri (Apulia), hundreds of portable art objects were discovered. In the Epigravettian layers of the Grotta Continenza (layers 29 to 46), 7 red painted stones and 83 decorated objects on hard animal supports (bone, antler, wild boar tusk, Glycymeris shell) were recovered. Many cultural manifestations are known in the Neolithic and Metal Ages in Italy. They were associated with pits, dug in the floors of caverns, and stone circles where vases or votive objects were deposited. This paper looks in detail at the evidence for cult practices during the Neolithic in Italy, especially cave sites in southern Italy. The problems of recognising cult activities are highlighted; whether the simple borrowing of ethnographic parallels or the application of ethnographically derived models such as initiation rites, rites of passage, or hunting magic.
