Impact of lockdowns on housing perceptions among the urban population
The study brings a comprehensive picture of how the infection threat and counter-pandemic measures affected inhabitants’ perceptions of their urban environments during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our results reveal that the pandemic has amplified the value attributed to 1) urban and peri-urban public and private green spaces, 2) the local availability of public services and civic amenities, 3) neighbourhood tranquillity and lower population density, 4…
Carsharing users’ behaviour and attitudes. The role of car availability in households
This paper provides insights into differences in carsharing users' attitudes, motives for joining carsharing, and transport behaviour between users with and without another car at their disposal. It builds on revealed and stated data about members of the oldest carsharing company in the Czech Republic. Carsharing adopters without a car utilise shared cars more intensively than carsharing users with a car available in their household. On the other…
Estimating Mode of Transport in Daily Mobility during the Covid-19 Pandemic Using a Multinomial Logistic Regression Model
At the beginning of 2020 there was a spinning point in the travel behavior of people around the world because of the pandemic and its consequences. This paper analyzes the specific behavior of travelers commuting to work or school during the COVID-19 pandemic based on a sample of 2000 respondents from two countries. We obtained data from an online survey, applying multinomial regression analysis. The results demonstrate the multinomial model with…
Application of microsimulation models in passenger transport
This paper summarizes recent experience with microsimulation models applied to analyze economic and environmental impacts of transportation scenarios. First, relevant international studies from the European and North American countries are reviewed. Then, the paper introduces a microeconomic model calibrated and simulated for five largest cities in the Czech Republic. This model is the first attempt to apply a microsimulation model in the transpo…
A note on the optimal taxation theory
This paper is focused on the theory of optimal taxation applied to environmental regulation. The first part summarizes the current state of knowledge in this field, especially it concentrates on the so called double dividend hypothesis. The second part of the paper defines the concept of triple dividend in transport, which is modelled in the normative neoclassical framework. Based on econometric estimation, we calibrate a model and empirically in…
