Human reactions to the 2023 Al Haouz earthquake in Marrakech, Morocco
Deformation partitioning in the mid- to deep sheared crust of the Variscan Fautea-Favone metamorphic complex (southern Corsica, France)
The Variscan basement in Corsica (France) is exposed as scattered metamorphic complexes preserved in the late Permian batholith in the south-western sector of the island. We present the first tectono-metamorphic map (at 1:10000 scale) of the Variscan high-grade metamorphic complex exposed in one of these complexes in the Fautea-Favone area (south-eastern Corsica). Our geological mapping distinguished the Fautea Migmatitic Complex (FMC), to the so…
Structural setting and architecture of the North Cycladic Detachment System in the northeastern sectors of Mykonos Island (Greece)
We present the 1:8000 scale geological map of the northeastern sector of Mykonos Island, where an igneous, metamorphic and siliciclastic sequence is cut by the North Cycladic Detachment System (NCDS), and brittly-ductily deformed during the emplacement of the Mykonos Granite. We describe the architecture of the (ductile) Livada and (brittle) Mykonos Detachments pertaining to the NCDS. Geological mapping was functional to (i) the description of al…
Trace Elements in Soil and Urban Groundwater in an Area Impacted by Metallurgical Activity
Trace elements were measured in soil and groundwater collected within the Fornaci di Barga urban area (Serchio River Valley, Tuscany, Italy), a territory that integrates natural assets with touristic vocation, impacted by long-lasting metallurgical activity. Epidemiological studies highlighted that the area surrounding the industrial plants is characterized by a persistent excess of diseases, attributed to heavy metal pollution. Soils were taken …
Fault tectonics of the Tuscan Nappe in the eastern sector of the Apuan Alps (Italy)
We present the geological-structural map of the Tuscan Nappe exposed on the eastern border of the Apuan Alps metamorphic dome (Tuscany, Italy). The 1:6,500 scaled Main Map covers an area of about 10 km2. It contains the first detailed overview of the fault tectonics affecting the Tuscan Nappe during the exhumation and uplift of the Tuscan Metamorphic Units. We documented a polyphase fault tectonics that initially produced low-angle extensional fa…
The Intra-Pontide suture zone in the Tosya-Kastamonu area, Northern Turkey
We present the first detailed geological map of the tectonic units documented in the easternmost branch of the Intra-Pontide suture (IPS) zone in the Tosya-Kastamonu area (Northern Turkey). The Main Map is at 1:50,000 scale and covers an area of about 350 km2. It derived from 1:25,000 scale classic field mapping and represents a detailed overview of the complexities documented in the IPS zone, a tectonic nappe stack originating from the closure o…
Structure of the Variscan metamorphic complexes in the central transect of the Posada-Asinara Line (SW Gallura region, Northern Sardinia, Italy)
This study represents the first detailed tectono-metamorphic map of the metamorphic complexes cropping out in the inner portion of the Variscan belt in north-central Sardinia Island (Italy). The Main Map is at a 1:30.000 scale and covers an area of c. 148 km2. It is based on 1: 10.000 scale classic field mapping and represents an overview of the lithological and structural complexities documented in the metasedimentary and migmatite domes croppin…
