  • Assessing the dietary habits and nutritional status of secondary school students in Kraków and the Myślenice district (2016–2017)

Open Access•Jaśmina Żwirska, Ewa Błaszczyk-Bębenek et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Adolescence is a period of rapid growth and development, making proper nutrition essential for overall health and fitness, as well as proper physical and cognitive development. The aim of this study was to assess consumption patterns of everyday food, fast food, and snacks among adolescents aged 12–16 years, depending on sex and nutritional status. The survey was conducted in the Myślenice district (a second-level local government unit) and in Kr…

  • Dietary and non-dietary risk factors associated with excess body mass and abdominal obesity in adolescents from rural regions of southern Poland

Open Access•Ewa Błaszczyk-Bębenek, Przemysław Holko et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Excess body mass, including abdominal obesity, has multifactorial causes that are closely linked to various aspects of child development. The prevalence of excess body mass in the pediatric population in Poland is increasing. This study aimed to assess risk factors for excess body mass, including abdominal obesity, among adolescents from southern Poland. A total of 381 adolescents were included to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesit…

  • Neyman-Pearson Hypothesis Testing, Epistemic Reliability and Pragmatic Value-Laden Asymmetric Error Risks

Open Access•Adam P Kubiak, Paweł Kawalec et al.•ARTICLE•Axiomathes•2022

We show that if among the tested hypotheses the number of true hypotheses is not equal to the number of false hypotheses, then Neyman-Pearson theory of testing hypotheses does not warrant minimal epistemic reliability (the feature of driving to true conclusions more often than to false ones). We also argue that N-P does not protect from the possible negative effects of the pragmatic value-laden unequal setting of error probabilities on N-P’s epis…

  • Prior Information in Frequentist Research Designs

Open Access•Adam P Kubiak, Paweł Kawalec•ARTICLE•Journal for General Philosophy of…•2022

We analyse the issue of using prior information in frequentist statistical inference. For that purpose, we scrutinise different kinds of sampling designs in Jerzy Neyman’s theory to reveal a variety of ways to explicitly and objectively engage with prior information. Further, we turn to the debate on sampling paradigms (design-based vs. model-based approaches) to argue that Neyman’s theory supports an argument for the intermediate approach in the…

  • Socio-Economic Factors Influencing the Use of Dietary Supplements by Schoolchildren from Małopolska Voivodship (Southern Poland)

Open Access•Beata Piorecka, Karolina Koczur et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The use of regular supplementation may be important in alleviating the potential effects of specific nutrient deficiencies. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to assess the socio-economic and lifestyle factors influencing the administration of dietary supplements to schoolchildren from the Małopolskie voivodship. The study was conducted in March-June 2018 on 332 healthy children and adolescents (187 boys, 145 girls) aged 7-14 from the city…

  • Potential Cost-Savings From the Use of the Biosimilars in Slovakia

Open Access•Tomas Tesar, Peter Golias et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2020

Objectives: To analyse the market shares of biosimilars in Slovakia and to calculate the potential cost-savings from the use of biosimilars in Slovakia based on two different data sources. Methods: National reimbursement lists from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia were used for analysing the availability of biosimilars with public funding. In addition, the reimbursement dossiers of biosimilars, the justifications of reimbursement …
