Interactive behavior in mothers with and without borderline personality disorder
The results indicate reduced child affect recognition in mothers with BPD. Further, mothers showing stronger neural activation of the TPJ and dmPFC while seeing their own sad children were more non-hostile, pointing towards an important role of affective ToM in maternal care, which might be a viable therapeutic target in future studies
The mediating role of attachment and anger
Attachment insecurity and anger suppression may serve as pathways linking the maternal history of ELM to the risk of child abuse, even when considering maternal psychopathology. Overall, our findings indicate that interventions aimed at strengthening attachment and improving anger suppression may be beneficial for all mothers with ELM history and high child abuse potential, not just those who suffer from mental illness
