    Open Access•Bolette B Blaagaard, Bolette Blaagaard et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Media Studies•2024•References: 9

This article presents a postcolonial and feminist analysis of 44 newspaper articles published between 1965 and 2022 about “the coil campaign” in Greenland, which fitted Greenlandic Inuit women with the IUD in the 1960s and 1970s, at times without their knowledge or consent. Using a media archive search and conducting a discursive analysis, we explore how journalistic reporting and debates enabled a discourse of colonial virtues and modernization …

Postcolonial Publics: Art and Citizen Media in Europe presents a collection of sixteen chapters that explore the themes of how migrants, refugees and citizens express and share their political and social causes and experiences through art and media. These expressions, which we term ‘citizen media’, arguably become a platform for postcolonial intellectuals as the studies pursued in this volume investigate the different ways in which previously exc…

Besides the video the data consists of digital views and comments, texts sourced from citizen media publications, social media sites, dig…

Although there has been no explicit scholarly or artistic relationship between citizen media and postcolonial studies so far, this entry will demonstrate that an implicit dialogue between the two fields operates on several levels, including the level of critiquing power, practices and ambiguities in the context of potential commercialization and cooptation. This article traces the intersecting and interstitial spaces of political aesthetics in political street art featuring key activists of the Egyptian uprising of 2011–13 as well as the following struggle. We argue that the complex political expressions displayed in the images as recontextualized and embodied afford the images different roles in citizens’ political and social struggles. We develop three modalities of political street art – emplacem…
