  • Far infrared intervention on brain changes in patients with alcohol dependence

Open Access•Yu Liu, Wenxiang Geng et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

These findings suggest that while abstinence promotes brain reorganization, FIR therapy may provide additional support for neuroplasticity and cognitive stabilization, aiding in the structural recovery of key brain regions affected by Alcohol dependence. This study is preliminary in nature due to the modest sample size and the non-randomized design. Larger randomized controlled studies with longer follow-up are required to confirm the robustness …

  • Peripheral blood cytokines as potential diagnostic biomarkers of suicidal ideation in patients with first-episode drug-naïve major depressive disorder

Open Access•Yayun Xu, Jun Liang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Objective Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a leading cause of disability, with a high risk of suicidal ideation (SI). Few studies have evaluated the potential of multiple cytokines as biomarkers for SI in patients with MDD. In the present study, we examined the serum levels of multiple cytokines in patients with first-episode drug-naïve MDD, with the aim to discover and identify serum cytokines-based biomarkers for identification of SI in MDD. …

  • Network Association of Biochemical and Inflammatory Abnormalities With Psychiatric Symptoms in First-Episode Schizophrenia Patients

Open Access•Junwei Yan, Yuanyuan Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Our study revealed a complex interactive network correlation among the cardiovascular risk factors, biological immunity profiles, and psychotic symptoms in first-episode patients. Abnormal inflammatory factors and CVD risk factors had high sensitivity and specificity for predicting SCZ symptoms. Generally, our study provided novel information on the immune-related mechanisms involved in early CVD risk in patients with psychotic disorders

  • Childhood maltreatment increases the suicidal risk in Chinese schizophrenia patients

Open Access•Peng Cheng, Peijun Ju et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Relapsed group of patients had significantly more severe childhood trauma, recent psychosocial stress, suicidal risk and proneness to suicidal behavior. BMI and emotional neglect are unique predictors for different dimensions of suicide

  • Potential Role of Pain Catastrophic Thinking in Comorbidity Patients of Depression and Chronic Pain

Open Access•Yuanyuan Chen, Peijun Ju et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Our results suggested that the pain-related catastrophic thinking and anxiety were more severe in the comorbidity group than in MDD-only group and healthy group. Pain-related catastrophizing thoughts and anxiety may have potentially effects on the comorbidity of depression and chronic pain

  • Association Between Abundance of Haemophilus in the Gut Microbiota and Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia

Open Access•Cuizhen Zhu, Mingming Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Increasing evidence indicates an interaction between dysbiosis of the microbiota and the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. However, limited information is available on the specific microbial communities associated with symptoms of schizophrenia. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate gut microbiota dysbiosis and its relationship with psychopathologies in schizophrenia. We recruited 126 participants and divided them into three groups according to…

  • L-Carnitine and Acetyl-L-Carnitine

    Open Access•Lijuan Nie, Li-Juan Nie et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

The lack of biomarkers greatly limits the diagnosis and treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). Endogenous L-carnitine (LC) and its derivative acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) play antidepressant roles by improving brain energy metabolism, regulating neurotransmitters and neural plasticity. The levels of ALC in people and rodents with depression are significantly reduced. It is necessary to determine whether serum LC and ALC might be used as novel …
