  • Development of a questionnaire for evaluating supporters’ skills in Hikikomori support

    Open Access•Hiroaki Kubo, Keiko Naono-Nagatomo et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2025

Enhancing the skills of hikikomori supporters inherently contributes to improving the quality of support provided. However, a comprehensive skills assessment tool for these supporters has not yet been developed. This study aimed to develop a self-rated questionnaire, the Hikikomori Supporter’s Skills Checklist (HSSC). Based on a preliminary survey involving 43 supporters, the HSSC draft was revised. The revised version comprises 39 items addressi…

  • Eye Movement Abnormalities in Major Depressive Disorder

Open Access•Junichi Takahashi, Yoji Hirano et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Background: Despite their high lifetime prevalence, major depressive disorder (MDD) is often difficult to diagnose, and there is a need for useful biomarkers for the diagnosis of MDD. Eye movements are considered a non-invasive potential biomarker for the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. However, eye movement deficits in MDD remain unclear. Thus, we evaluated detailed eye movement measurements to validate its usefulness a…

  • Prospects for Future Methodological Development and Application of Magnetoencephalography Devices in Psychiatry

Open Access•Naruhito Hironaga, Yuichi Takei et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a functional neuroimaging tool that can record activity from the entire cortex on the order of milliseconds. MEG has been used to investigate numerous psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, dementia, and autism spectrum disorder. Although several review papers on the subject have been published, perspectives and opinions regarding the use of MEG in psychiatric research hav…

  • Neurophysiological Face Processing Deficits in Patients With Chronic Schizophrenia

Open Access•Naotoshi Ohara, Yoji Hirano et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

The present study showed specific reductions in the M170 response to human faces in patients with SZ. Our findings could suggest that SZ is characterized by face processing deficits that are associated with the severity of negative symptoms. Thus, we suggest that social cognition impairments in SZ might, at least in part, be caused by this functional face processing deficit

  • Long-Term Test-Retest Reliability of Auditory Gamma Oscillations Between Different Clinical EEG Systems

Open Access•Yoji Hirano, Itta Nakamura et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

The 40-Hz ASSR oscillatory activities, including induced power, showed excellent test-retest reliability, even when using different EEG systems over a duration of 5 months. These findings confirm the utility of the 40-Hz ASSR as a reliable clinical and translatable biomarker for multicenter collaborative research
