Open Access•Olga Kashevarova, Galina Portnova et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

The narrative review by Zaboski et al. (1) provides a timely and valuable synthesis of the application of deep learning (DL) to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The authors effectively argue for the unique potential of DL to handle the marked heterogeneity and complexity of OCD, which often eludes traditional statistical methods. By focusing exclusively on OCD, the review offers a necessary and nuanced examination that broader psychiatric AI …

  • Heart rate response to cognitive load as a marker of depression and increased anxiety

Open Access•Evgeniia I Alshanskaia, Natalia Zhozhikashvili et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

The findings underscore the predictive importance of ECG and PPG heart rate parameters in mental health assessment, particularly depression and anxiety under cognitive stress induced by increasing load. We discuss mechanisms of sympathetic activation explaining these differences. Our research outcomes have implications for clinical assessments and wearable device algorithms for more precise, personalized mental health diagnostics

  • Top-down modulation of brain responses in spelling error recognition

Open Access•Ekaterina Larionova, Zhanna Garakh et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2023

The task being undertaken can influence orthographic, phonological and semantic processes. In linguistic research, two tasks are most often used: a task requiring a decision in relation to the presented word and a passive reading task which does not require a decision regarding the presented word. The results of studies using these different tasks are not always consistent. This study aimed to explore brain responses associated with the process o…

  • The Effect of Experimental Conditions, the Sample Size and Session Duration on Resting-State Subjective Experience

Open Access•Galina Portnova, Alina Tetereva et al.•ARTICLE•Психология. Журнал Высшей школы…•2020

Our research aims to study the difference in resting-state during EEG and fMRI experimental conditions, each of which has its own peculiarities. Therefore, we conducted EEG and fMRI experiments very close in terms of conditions, during which 108 and 109 healthy participants, respectively, were recorded at rest for ten minutes. Subjective content of conscious during resting-state was assessed using the Amsterdam Resting-State Questionnaire (ARSQ) …

  • Psychological Studies of Thought

    Open Access•Vladimir D Shadrikov, С С Кургинян et al.•ARTICLE•Психология. Журнал Высшей школы…•2016

The concept of thought has always been central to understanding the nature of human thinking in psychological studies. However, the main question of what is thought still remains unanswered. The origins of the issue lie in the definition of the original unit of analysis, i.e. in the definition of what lies at the heart of image, belief, imagination, speech, consciousness, and thinking. Based on available studies, results of which were reflected i…
