There is significant variability in both the frequency and type of mutations present in our study population and in what has been reported in other Latin American countries. It is necessary to perform studies that use complete sequencing technology for the CFTR gene to identify other mutations present in our population
The primary pathogenic microorganisms found in the respiratory tract of patients with CF in Peru were the same as those found in other countries. This study is the first to perform 16S rRNA sequencing as well as MALDI-TOF and MALDI-TOF/TOF analysis of the bacterial pathogens circulating in Peru. The inclusion of proteomic analysis further allowed for the identification of native microorganisms involved in CF
