  • Predictors of sickness absence among employees with common mental disorders in Sweden– a longitudinal study

Open Access•Anna Frantz, Anna Toropova et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Our study suggests that work-related factors, i.e., high job demands and impaired work ability, are associated with an increased number of days on sickness absence. Additionally, the certainty of returning to work within three months is associated with fewer days on sickness absence. The results highlight the importance of addressing specific workplace factors when designing interventions aimed at decreasing sickness absence for employees on sick…

  • The return to work after sick leave due to common mental disorders among young employees

Open Access•Caroline Olsson, Irene Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The study participants identified similar factors that promoted and hindered the return to work process. Young employees need more support from employers and various welfare agencies. Managers need to know more about the return to work process and the responsibility of involved stakeholders. No expressed gender differences were identified

Open Access•Elisabeth Björk Brämberg, Therese Hellman et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025•Referencias: 42

Background: The number of people on sickness absence due to common mental disorders (CMDs) is a societal, workplace and individual concern. The effectiveness of several interventions has been evaluated in reducing the length of sickness absence with inconclusive results. A promising intervention is based on problem-solving with workplace involvement, but the results are limited to occupational health services and have not been replicated in Swedi…

  • Collaboration in the return-to-work process after sick leave due to common mental disorders

Open Access•Veronica Svärd, Zana Arapovic Johansson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Competing goals and priorities were identified as hindering successful collaboration, contributing to a spectrum of complex versus easy RTW collaboration. This study suggests some basic conditions for achieving a collaborative arena that is neutral in terms of power balance, where all stakeholders can share their views

  • Navigating work and life– a qualitative exploration of managers’ and employees’ views of return-to-work after sick leave due to common mental disorders

Open Access•Lisa Holmlund, Helena Tinnerholm Ljungberg et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

This study recruited employees from a two-armed cluster-randomised controlled trial evaluating a problem-solving intervention for reducing sick leave among employees sick-listed due to common mental disorders (reg. NCT3346395)

  • Experiences of participating in a problem-solving intervention with workplace involvement in Swedish primary health care

Open Access•Ida K Karlsson, Ida Karlsson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Seeing the workplace as an integral part of the intervention by always conducting a three-part meeting enabled a dialogue that can be used to identify and address disagreements, to explain CMD symptoms, and how these can be handled at the workplace. We suggest allocating time towards developing good relationships, provide RCs with training in handling disagreements, and additional knowledge about factors in the employee's psychosocial work enviro…

Open Access•E Aboagye, Irene Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•Scientometrics•2021

The purpose of this review was to investigate the association between publication performance and the organizational and psychosocial work environment of academics in a university setting. Open Access•Ashraful Azad, Azade Azad et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Qualitative interviews are generally conducted in person. As the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) prevents in-person interviews, methodological studies which investigate the use of the telephone for persons with different illness experiences are needed. The aim was to explore experiences of the use of telephone during semi-structured research interviews, from the perspective of participants and researchers. Data were collected from mobile phone in…

Open Access•Caroline Olsson, Helena Tinnerholm Ljungberg et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021•Referencias: 57

Introduction: About 20% of the working-age population in the average OECD country is suffering from a mental disorder. The prevalence rates are especially high among young adults and women. Open Access•Irene Jensen, Irene B Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Despite the rapid growth in research and R&D expenditures, the translation of research into practice is limited. One approach to increase the translation and utilization of research is practice based research networks. With the aim of strengthening evidence-based practice (EBP) within occupational health services in Sweden (OH-Services), a practice-based research network (PBRN-OSH) was developed. The PBRN-OSH includes researchers and representati…

Our focus in this article is research interviews that involve two languages. We present an epistemological and methodological analysis of the meaning of qualitative interviewing with an interpreter. The results of the analysis show that such interviewing is not simply exchanging words between two languages, but means understanding, grasping the essential meanings of the spoken words, which requires an interpreter to bridge the different horizons …
