The Empire Within: Consumption in Lisbon in Eighteenth Century and First Half of the Nineteenth Century
This paper analyses household consumption of colonial goods across the whole income spectrum, in Lisbon and its hinterland, during the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth century. We focus on manufactured products from the Empire and objects made with overseas raw materials. The survey reveals the overwhelming presence of the Empire in Lisbon households.
