    Tomas Schmit was born on 13 July 1943 in Thier in the Rhineland, near Cologne and Diisseldorf. He chose not to follow a formal academic training, but rather to go through a practical apprenticeship by collaborating with such Fluxus artists as Nam June Paik, George Maciunas, George Brecht, Addi Koepcke, and Ludwig Gosewitz.
