Formation of Mesolithic hunting campsites
The organisation of hunter-gatherer campsites and whether repetitive behaviour patterns are reflected in the cultural and functional context of archaeological sites remains an important issue in Mesolithic archaeology. We analysed the material from the Rydno and Wieliszew sites in Poland, using the refitting of flint artefacts, the identification of use-wear on tools, and their spatial analysis to deliver the reconstruction of socio-technical pro…
Collective Flint Deposits in Graves of the Corded Ware Culture
The subject of this article is to present a special type of collective finds, namely compact deposits of flint artefacts in the graves belonging to the Corded Ware culture, to the Kraków-Sandomierz group. Grave deposits from two cemeteries: Kichary Nowe and Wilczyce, situated in the Sandomierz Upland and located in the Opatówka-river valley serve as an example. The authors propose a new perspective on issues related to the placement of such depos…

The Preservation Potential of Residues on Stone Tools from Less Favourable Contexts
This article is a preliminary discussion of the scientific value of archival lithics kept in museum collections and storage based on a small sample of Late Mesolithic flint artefacts from the site of Tomaszów II in south-eastern Poland, which was subjected to organic residue analysis. The aim of the trial study was to investigate and assess the preservation potential of organic residues on stone tools from sites located in areas not favourable to…
Nieborowa – Campsites of a Mesolithic Community in the Context of Spatial-Functional Studies (Poland). Interpretation of the Settlement Model
The reconstruction of the spatial organisation of Mesolithic camps was presented using the example of two selected concentrations of flints from a site located in central eastern Poland. The basis for the spatial-functional studies was the use of the refitting of flint artefacts, identifying microwear on tools, and the analysis of the horizontal distribution of finds expressed through maps generated with the use of the Surfer software. This paper…
Human behavior, space and activity. Methodological discussion on the spatial organization of camps by Mesolithic communities based on the Nieborowa I (Poland)
Flint manufacturing of the Globular Amphorae culture at the site Wilczyce 10 (Lesser Poland) in the context of inventories from the neighbouring areas
The paper discusses three flint inventories of the Globular Amphorae culture from the site in Wilczyce located on the Sandomierz Upland (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Lesser Poland). The said inventories were collected during the exploration of settlement-type pits. The paper also includes a functional analysis of all tools and blades and the collection of selected flakes. The raw material structure of the discussed inventories shows that the Late …
Flintknapping Technology of The Corded Ware Culture
The subject of this article is the analysis of manufacturing flint in the Corded Ware Culture, using examples of chosen archeological sources from site Wilczyce 10. This site is located on Sandomierz Upland and it was discovered in 1994, during the field survey carried out for the Archeological Picture of Poland project. This analysis included flakes, blades and tools. First two categories of finds come primarily from the production of rectangula…
Rydno IV/47. Organizacja przestrzenna obozowisk w krzemienicy kultury janisławickiej w świetle badań funkcjonalnych, składanek oraz planigrafii znalezisk archeologicznych
The article studies Mesolithic campsites of Janisławice culture at the Rydno IV/47 site in terms of their spatial organization and functional attributes. Traseological analyses of flint artifacts (scrapers, endscrapers, burins, points, truncated blades, retouched blades and flakes, crested blades and ordinary blades) from three concentrations revealed use-wear traces in the case of 32 specimens. These traces could be attributed to activities such…
Manufacturing rectangular-sectioned axes in a Corded Ware culture in the light of refittings at Wilczyce 10, district Sandomierz (Poland)
Site Wilczyce is situated on Sandomierz Upland in the south of Poland. It was discovered in 1994 during a systematic archaeological survey within the project Archaeological Picture of Poland. The flint material constituting the source database for the analysis of the production of rectangular-sectioned axes was excavated during the exploration of feature No. 11. The collection of flint artifacts consists of 271 items. In course of laboratory work…
Grób kultury ceramiki sznurowej ze stanowiska 10 w Wilczycach, pow. sandomierski

The Female Figurines in Flaked Flint from the Magdalenian Site of Wilczyce 10 (Sandomierz District, Poland)
Magdalenian artifacts representing human figures (parietal engravings and statuettes) are rare in Poland. While figurines (in hematite) have already been discovered at Dzierżysław 35, the site of Wilczyce has thus far yielded the greatest number of them. These are doubly interesting since most of them are made from flint (50 versus 4 in bone) and were “sculpted” by retouching the flint pieces. Located on the Sandomierz Plateau (southern Poland), …
Functional and spatial diversity of Palaeolithic and Mesolithic camps around Lublin in Polesia (Poland)
