  • The utility of livestock dung for reconstructing recent ethnological and environmental histories

    X Panades I Blas, J Bartolomé Filella et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 10

Animal dung is evaluated here as a tool to reconstruct recent societal and environmental changes. Studies completed on the macro- and micro-contents from dung deposited in a mountain cave in Catalonia during the 1970–1980s, preceding the socio-economic changes in the area, was supplemented by the testimony of the last shepherd alive in the area. This information was also compared with evidence from aerial photographs of the area surrounding the c…

  • Stomatal density and stomatal index of fossil Buxus from coprolites of extinct Myotragus balearicus Bate (Artiodactyla, Caprinae) as evidence of increased CO 2 concentration during the late Holocene

    Open Access•Leidy Rivera Sánchez, Leidy Rivera et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Cited by: 3•References: 3

Stomatal density of plants may vary depending on environmental factors, such as CO 2 concentration. Under the current atmospheric conditions, it is expected that leaves have different stomatal density than they had hundreds or thousands of years ago, due to the rise in CO 2 in the atmosphere. Coprolites of the extinct Myotragus balearicus from Cova Estreta (Pollença, Mallorca), with a radiocarbon age of 3775–3640 cal. bc, have been used to study …
