Archaeozoology of the Bronze Age Herders
This article presents archaeozoological data from settlements and several Bronze Age burial complexes in the Southern Urals and Northern Kazakhstan. The dataset consists of primary and secondary archaeozoological data obtained by processing animal bones from sites dating back to various periods of the Bronze Age. In this paper, we analyze what can be learned about the meat supply of the Alakul miners of the Late Bronze Age using archaeozoology, Sr-isotope analysis, and radiocarbon dating techniques. The study is based on a sample of domestic animal bone originating from the Vorovskaya Yama copper mine site in the southern Trans-Urals. The article reviews discussions on the findings of a repeated study of archaeozoological collections from the Sintashta and Arkaim settlements. The main focus falls on the analysis of age-related changes, pathological changes and modification in the livestock bones.
