  • Public-Sector Labour Relations in an Era of Restraint and Restructuring

Open Access•John B Kervin, John Kervin et al.•ARTICLE•The Canadian Journal of Sociology•2003

This volume provides in-depth case studies of public service labour relations in Canada during the 1990s. The cases reported demonstrate that governments have adopted the attitude and policy that they may engage in bargaining or suspend it whenever thay find that course of action to be convenient. Viewed from a broader international context, as discussed in the concluding chapter, the casual suspension of bargaining by Canadian governments cannot…

  • Explaining nursing turnover intent

    Open Access•Lillie Lum, John B Kervin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•1998•References: 4

A number of models have been developed to explain nurses' turnover behavior. Our status‐related behavior toward others is a function of the characteristics we perceive them to possess. Expectation states theory specifies the nature of the relationship between social characteristics and behavior, but until recently was limited to situations in which only one characteristic is perceived. This paper adds to the theory additional general assumptions from which an information‐combining model is derived. This model specifies st…

  • Artificiality in Experimental Sociology

    Open Access•Murray Webster, John B Kervin•ARTICLE•Canadian Review of Sociology/Revue…•1971•Cited by: 9•References: 6
